Position Summary
Mathematics and Statistics Tutors provide tutorial assistance to students in lower-level mathematics and statistics classes (classes up to and including the first level of calculus and the first level of statistics). Tutors may occasional help proctor exams or even substitute for a lab assistant. 
 
There  will be a mandatory training session prior to the start of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 hours at EKU
2. Know the mathematics covered in MAT 090, 095, 105, 112 and 114 and be familiar with instructor and textbook methods. 
3. Have special expertise in at least one of the following areas 
a. Math service courses (MAT 105 and 106) 
b. Math education courses (MAT 201 and 202) 
c. Trigonometry (MAT 1120) 
d. Pre-Calculus, First semester calculus (MAT 122, 234, 261) 
e. First semester statistics (STA 215, and 270) 
4. Be/become proficient with the TI-83/84/86 graphing calculators. 
5. Pass a test covering college algebra, word problems, finance math, and non-routine problem solving. 
6. Be available for training throughout the semester.

Desired Qualifications
The successful candidate for a position in the Math/Stat Tutoring Center will be a capable EKU student with excellent knowledge of algebra (elementary, intermediate and college level) and the ability to tutor effectively. The tutor must also be capable of tutoring in at least one of the following areas of mathematics: 
 
1. Pre-calculus and calculus. 
2. Probability and statistics. 
3. Mathematics for elementary and middle school math teachers. 
 
The math/stat tutor should have excellent communication skills and be mature, reliable, and hardworking.
