Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is one of the largest regional colleges in Ohio, located in Blue Ash, Ohio with an enrollment of approximately 5100 students.  UC Blue Ash College invites applications for an Academic Tutor position at 80% FTE for the Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science Department.  The Academic Tutor assists students in mathematics, physics, and statistics coursework ranging from developmental to sophomore level courses.  The primary role of the Tutor is to provide individualized one-on-one tutoring or offer small group tutoring sessions. This position requires commitment to excellence in undergraduate learning and teaching with a diverse student population in an open-access college.


Essential Functions
  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring.
  • Guide students who need additional help with designated subject area classwork.
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide supplemental instruction to students seeking assistance.
  • Help students develop study plans and strategies.
  • May evaluate academic progress of students.
  • May compile reports on student performance.
  • Able to sit at length with students and in close proximity.
  • Communicate frequently in verbal and written forms.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline.


Required Experience

One (1) year of teaching or tutoring related to the specified field(s).


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or a related field.
  • Prefer tutor with experience teaching Mathematics, Physics, and/or Statistics courses.
  • Demonstrated experience as an active team member.
  • Experience with technology (for example Excel) and computer science/IT is beneficial but is not required.  

 

Working hours may include mornings after 8:00 a.m., afternoons, and early evening (on two or three days a week) and possible weekend hours. Average weekly hours will be greater during the Fall and Spring semesters (approx. 40 hrs/wk) and reduced during the Summer semester (approx. 20 hrs/wk). All hours will be in the William R. Deane Math Lab at the Blue Ash Campus.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Repetitive hand motion (such as typing) - Often
