Position Description | The Mississippi Delta Research Center of Excellence for Maternal Health is a recently funded multi-year project created to address maternal mortality, decrease severe maternal morbidity, and promote maternal health equity in partnership with the Mississippi Delta community. This collaboration is between Jackson State University, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Mississippi State Department of Health, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Six Dimensions (a Mississippi community-based public health consulting company), and various community partners. One of the main components of the Center is a research training program to foster culturally responsive research that addresses maternal health disparities by training and mentoring (a) postdoctoral trainees, (b) junior faculty, and © other early-stage investigators in the Mississippi Delta. The Maternal Health Research Teaching Fellow will be a key member of the COE and perform teaching and data analysis under the guidance of faculty at the Harvard Chan School (Drs. Bizu Gelaye and Henning Tiemeier). The center collaborates with the Data Innovation and Coordinating Hub, Implementation Science Hub, and other Research Centers to address maternal health. The program seeks a post-doctoral researcher to serve as a Teaching Fellow. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Work with program faculty to develop and run virtual training materials. 2. Lead annual 2-week in-person workshops for early-stage investigators at Harvard and Mississippi. 3. Help with recruitment and selection of trainees in collaboration with the COE collaborators. 4. Develop research projects for trainees working with program faculty and collaborators. 5. Work with Community Partners in the MS Delta to develop plans for service-learning activities for predoctoral fellows (Masters and Doctoral Students) at JSU, other HBUCs, and Harvard Chan School. 6. Severe as an instructor for epidemiologic methods and statistical analysis. 7. Mentor predoctoral trainees during their fellowship period 8. Liaise with Training Leads, Harvard Chan School Faculty, and affiliates engaged in Delta Programs. 9. The post doc will assist with research activities of the maternal postnatal home visiting research project. These activities will include supporting in study design, data collection, and statistical analyses to monitor inclusion and evaluate intervention impact. 10. Other related scientific projects are possible. The fellow will be based at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and will have opportunities for collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team working on studies addressing maternal health disparities. The fellow will be encouraged to participate in research projects in collaboration with other Research Centers of Excellence. |
