Overview:  

We are seeking a Material Assistant who will focus on providing materials management support to the Receiving, Distribution, Stores, and Marketplace Coordination, groups of the Materials Management Organization. This position resides in the Materials Management Organization in the Logistical Services Division, Facilities & Operations Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

As part of our team, you will provide a variety of materials management activities under general supervision.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Perform activities related to the acquisition, receipt, payment, and/or retention of materials in most efficient and cost-effective manner for stores and expensed bench stock inventories, and goods recipients.
  • Review and update SAP material master records for inventory items.
  • Monitor and procure DOT compliance related containers.
  • Review and process fuel transactions.
  • Interface routinely with employees of various outlets such as Accounts Payable, Distribution, goods recipients, Procurement, Receiving, Transportation Management, Vendors, etc.
  • Provide materials management support to Receiving, Distribution, Stores, EBS, and Marketplace Coordination.
  • Assist receiving and distribution personnel with a multitude of activities surrounding errors in receipt process, delivery points, inventory differences, property tagging requirements, inspection requirements, and hazardous materials tagging requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of relevant materials management experience in inventory control and material processing.
  • A working knowledge of materials management policies and procedures
  • Experience with SAP materials modules.
  • Experience with ORNL systems, including Facility Service Center, ORNL Buy, PALS, P-Card Transaction Management System.
  • Proficiency in office computer systems and software applications such as Microsoft Office / Outlook.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to positively interact with all levels of management, customers, and vendors.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills, including the demonstrated ability to work through multiple projects and adapt to multiple tasks and changing priorities in a demanding environment while maintaining the highest level of attention to detail.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize, work independently, make decisions, and communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Ability and desire to be a team player and to exercise sound judgment within the assigned scope of responsibility.
  • Must be flexible and perform a variety of tasks as needed.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
