Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Master Utilities Control Systems Technician, under general supervision, provides centralized coordination for the utilization of energy management control systems (EMS) in campus facilities, allowing the University to maximize its investment in building automation systems and reduce utility costs by optimizing building operations.

Required Education and Experience

High School graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience. Eight years experience in installation, maintenance, or repair of instrument rated digital electric or water meters, programming of electric or water meters, or other related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience installing electrical meters and meter related PLCs. Experience working with 24v, 120/240v wiring.

Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Valid Texas Class “C” drivers license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Journeyman Electrical license

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of digital electrical or water metering. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Capable of interpreting electrical and mechanical construction drawings and specifications.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Performs maintenance and repair of utilities metering components and systems.

Verifies documented meter locations and provide IT Development with drawings to import into metering software.

Monitors energy consumption in campus facilities, identifies metering errors and observes metering performance.

Participates in utilities metering design reviews. Makes recommendations for proper location and type of utilities metering installation.

Assists the Supervisor for Utilities Metering, performing job requirements for ensuring that electric metering devices are installed and setup properly with the correct CT ratio, PT ratio, system type, and logging the correct data points. Install all metering on medum voltage (480v) systems. Ensure chilled and heating hot water, domestic water, steam, and irrigation metering are installed and setup with the correct flows, pipe sizes, and ranges. Ensure temperature sensors are setup correctly. Assist the Supervisor for Utilities Metering Systems with coordination activities with appropriate maintenance divisions and university customers. This will require driving a university vehicle to different university locations. Maintains a working knowledge of current metering office initiatives. Maintains up to date working knowledge of relevant regulatory issues and technological changes in the metering of utilities. Assists in establishing protocol for operation and modification of metering strategies in campus facilities.
