The Master Gardener Program Coordinator will provide program coordination and support to the consumer horticulture program and facilitate the dissemination of horticulture information to the residents of Monroe County utilizing a trained volunteer corp. Serve as primary contact and coordinator for the Master Gardener Volunteer program.

    


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Bachelor’s or Equivalent Education. Associate Degree with 2 yrs transferrable program/functional experience may substitute.
•    Experience relevant to the role of the position.
•    Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. 
•    Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
•    Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.
•    Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
•    Experience with database programs. 
•    Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
•    Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
•    Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Program Delivery - 5% •    Deliver high quality, existing educational programs and activities that address identified programming priorities. 
•    Assist with teaching innovative, high quality Horticulture educational programs that address identified programming priorities.  
•    Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.
•    Conduct in-service trainings for Master Gardener volunteers, and distribute subject matter resources/materials.
•    Serve as subject matter resource in the area of  consumer horticulture utilizing existing subject matter resources and connection to Cornell faculty, Regional Cornell Teams (i.e. NWNY Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team, Cornell Vegetable Team, etc.), local organizations and partner agencies.
•    Collaborate with community agencies as requested or required to facilitate programs and activities, such as community gardens, speaker engagements, etc.
•    Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
•    Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. 

Program Evaluation - 5%

•    Implement program evaluation as designed.
•    Assist with interacting with program participants, program committees, and other key stakeholders as identified to collect evaluation data. 
•    Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure and methods.

Administrative Direction - 5%
•    Assist with development of marketing strategies, public affairs and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
•    Assist in identifying community and fiscal resources for program continuance and enhancement.
•    Provide supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.
•    Assist with the planning of the delivery of established educational program goals.
•    Assist Supervisor with planning and strategy development to strengthen and improve programs as necessary. 
•    May assist with financial direction of program to include planning for program expenses and budgets as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement.
 


Administrative Management - 5%

•    Assist with volunteer management to include: 
* Ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures. 
* Assist with recruitment of volunteers for the Master Gardeners.
* Assist with screening and orientation training of Master Gardener volunteers.
* Assist with orientation of and guidance to Master Gardener volunteers in accordance with established practices and procedures.
•    Assist with solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.
•    Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending and planning for Horticulture and Master Gardener Program needs/supplies.
•    Assist Supervisor by performing administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of the program budget (i.e. track expenses, provide support for purchasing).
•    Assist with effectively managing program budget allocations.
•    Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association.

Administrative Coordination/Operation - 75%
•    Apply existing subject matter knowledge to compile and maintain teaching materials. 
•    Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
•    Schedule volunteer events, meetings, programs, and trainings to foster contact and relationship building within Master Gardener volunteer base.
•    Participate in special projects including but not limited to volunteer trainings, county fair, fundraising, enrollment campaign, and other extension association activities, as assigned.   
•    Organize and coordinate horticulture activities and exhibits relating to county and/or state fair.
•    Coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as required by Supervisor.
•    Maintain communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as contributing educational articles to program newsletters, media releases, bulk mailings, social media accounts, media interviews, website postings to increase program visibility and to address issues.
•    Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of Horticulture programming through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational and other organizations.
•    Provide administrative support for the coordination and implementation of multi-media efforts. 
•    Track and record volunteer activity.
•    Assist with maintenance of the horticulture database.
•    Assist with program evaluation to include collecting evaluation and needs assessment data from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.
•    Coordinate and execute Horticulture fundraisers and events including: plant sales, gardening sales, educational symposiums and conferences 
•    Coordinate and execute Master Gardener educational seminars and symposiums including venue reservation, scheduling registration, etc.
•    Coordinate and schedule Master Gardener Volunteers for proper maintenance of office gardens.
•    Maintain records and, complete required reporting.
•    Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in the implementation of the budget to include, but not limited to assisting with allocating budget amounts and providing input for the preparation of the budget.
•    Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
•    Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. 
•    Maintain confidentiality of participant information and data collected.
•    Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as requested.
•    This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.
 

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
•    In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
•    Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.  
•    Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
•    Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc. 
•    Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
