Job Description

ASU's Educational Outreach and Student Service is seeking a talented, organized and versatile Marketing Content Specialist to join our high-performing team. The Marketing Content Specialist will work closely and collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to create marketing content for student and community audiences and build communication strategies for social media, news stories, e-newsletters, webpages, digital advertisements and more.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, develops, and implements communications projects and programs for EOSS unit stakeholders to ensure consistency in message and support of goals and objectives, and advises stakeholders and other decision makers on effective marketing communications.
  • Collaborates with EOSS stakeholders and internal content team to build strategies and create content for EOSS social media channels, e-newsletters, marketing emails and other editorial and marketing content.
  • Coordinates social media calendars and campaigns and ensures alignment with overall marketing, outreach and storytelling objectives in support of ASU’s student success mission. Attends events to conduct real-time social media promotion and shares published materials strategically on social media channels. 
  • Writes stories for ASU News and serves as a copywriter, editor and proofreader for all types of digital communications including, the EOSS Engagement Roundup and other unit-level e-newsletters and publications.
  • Interfaces with and conducts regular interviews with students, stakeholders, project leads/managers and team members to develop materials and content. 
  • Assists with website analytics, social media analytics and media coverage tracking and reporting.
  • Works collaboratively with EOSS stakeholders to conceptualize, craft and curate creative, high-quality and cost-effective communications for EOSS audiences (e.g., current students, prospective students, staff, faculty, donors, alumni and the general public) using multiple media channels and tools (e.g., email, blog/vlog posts, social media channels, news stories, print, advertisements, websites, displays, podcasts and merchandise).
  • Project manages the creation of written, graphic, or video content on behalf of unit stakeholders, in collaboration with internal team members and/or with independent contractors.
  • Processes Salesforce Marketing Cloud email requests and project manages digital marketing projects and campaigns (e.g., marketing emails, e-newsletters ASU Mobile app push notifications). Coordinates other editorial projects including reports, brochures, posters, flyers, murals, signage, invitations, etc.
  • Processes website content requests and helps to oversee content for EOSS websites on behalf of designated stakeholders; ensures timeliness of all information and coordinates content updates with unit staff.
  • Researches and maintains a solid understanding of industry best practices and trends with a primary focus on digital communications like blogging/vlogging, social media and email marketing.
  • Supervises activities of student workers or student interns.
  • Assists with the development and management of student worker budget, hiring and training processes. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field AND five years of content marketing, marketing communications, marketing project management or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience creating content in different styles (news, blogs, social media management, marketing copy, etc.) and a passion for storytelling.
  • Experience building successful social media campaigns and growing social media channel engagement.
  • Experience using social media management tools to schedule and publish scroll-stopping content across multiple social media accounts.
  • Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email management software to build email marketing campaigns. 
  • Experience reporting, editing and writing for the web. Video, audio and photography experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with social media management and scheduling tools (Facebook Business Suite, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, etc.). 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Dropbox, Google Drive and presentation programs (Google slides); skill in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro) a plus.
  • Tech savvy with the ability to reach mastery in the use of key ASU enterprise-wide marketing tools and resources including: ASU Mobile App content management system, Four Winds Interactive cloud-based digital signage platform and Aventri, cloud-based event management software. 
  • Experience in being service oriented, a disciplined work ethic and ability to instill a high standard of excellence to the overall team.
  • Experience in being a collaborative team member who is dedicated to ASU student success and to expanding access to higher education.
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal/communication skills and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 
  • Experience in responding appropriately to requests; escalating urgent/conflicting requests; applying good/concise communication skills during personal, written and telephone interactions;

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting/standing, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Communicate to perform essential functions
  • Use office equipment including a calculator, telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard and mouse), printer, fax and copier

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success.
