Job Summary

As the Director of Marketing & Communication you will develop and implement marketing and communication initiatives for the College of Science administration and provide strategic direction to the seven academic departments, contributing to their overall marketing and communication vision. You will plan and oversee marketing and communication strategies to promote the initiatives and achieve the goals of the College of Science related to both college and departmental rankings; and the enhancement of graduate and undergraduate recruiting, focusing on maintaining quality and quantity of applications. This position will direct strategic communication strategies ensuring content is tailored for diverse platforms and optimized for engagement. You will conduct data analytics to assess the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies and evaluate strategy performance and ensure alignment with the goals of the College of Science. You will develop strategies and determine metric goals for increasing audience engagement in College of Science research news. This position will determine and execute the marketing and communication strategies needed for the College’s participation in senior campus leadership initiatives. You will supervise communication specialists for departments of Biology, Mathematics, and Statistics. Develop and lead professional development for all Science communicators and marketers. You will also supervise College of Science recruiting staff, and provide oversight and guidance to web communication team, including content authors, website developers, and webapp developers.

 


About Us:

The College of Science is one of the central colleges playing a role in the strategic focus areas by the President and Provost – called Purdue Computes.  Several College of Science departments are supporting this initiative.  The College has created this new position to provide strategic leadership to the marketing and communication efforts in support of these initiatives.  This new position will provide the opportunity to create a new support structure for Science communication and for new student yield, and will join the dean’s leadership team.


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field 
  • Eight (8) – Nine (9) years of experience in science writing/communication 
  • Experience as a professional communicator 

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in marketing or communication 

 

Skills Needed:

  • Science writing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Photography.  Social media channels
  • Social media and website data analytics
  • Marketing of educational programs
  • Graphic design desired
