Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Innovate Carolina, the brand umbrella for the work of the Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, leads the University in its goal to uncover and unleash the vast innovation potential of faculty, students, staff, alumni and stakeholders. IEED works with leadership across campus to set strategy, provide central services, establish and foster partnerships, and garner resources to support the University’s innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development agenda. UNC-Chapel Hill is generating ground-breaking ideas through research to become a leading fundamental and translational research university. IEED uses a federated model to strengthen the innovation ecosystem that consists of an extensive network of University-facilitated programs. This network of students, faculty and staff are working together to tackle the most challenging problems in North Carolina and the world.
Position Summary
The Marketing and Engagement Manager will serve as an catalyst of UNC’s I&E programs, supporting faculty, staff and students and act as a liaison between the UNC I&E community and external constituents including industry, media, alumni, investors and community to support the Chancellor’s Economic Development Strategy being implemented by Innovate Carolina. 
The goal of the role is to help forge marketing and engagement strategies for building and maintaining healthy business relationships with stakeholders that promote the advancement of innovation and entrepreneurship and assure the commercial success of our partners at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in the community.
The Marketing and Engagement Manager will identify efficient processes and techniques to increase the engagement with industry to successfully execute the economic development strategy. This will include documenting the relationship and how it will successfully include deliverables and commitments between the industry partners/community and Innovate Carolina. They delegate tasks to the project team, subcontractors, monitor the various projects’ progress, and adjust plans as needed. This role also works with the marketing team to develop promotional techniques, creating brand awareness on various platforms to reach the target audience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate will have strong marketing/sales, relationship building, entrepreneurial, leadership and operational credentials. They will have demonstrated leadership and team-building qualities and the ability to interact successfully with highly-skilled academics, professionals and other entrepreneurs. They must have the ability to easily transition between strategic and tactical operations and problem solving situations and must have the following qualities: Excellent organization and communication skills; Ability to set priorities and execute them in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse constituents of seasoned entrepreneurs, early entrepreneurs, university staff and faculty, and corporate individuals; Ability to conceive of and build an entrepreneurship program; Willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Leadership team experience in an entrepreneurial or corporate environment; Experience with university policies and procedures
