Description of Work Unit
The Department of Systems Engineering, at Colorado State University, is currently one of the largest graduate programs at Colorado State University with more than 300 master’s and doctoral students. The Systems Engineering Programs began in 2008 and offers graduate level degrees including a Master of Engineering (M.E.), Master of Science (M.S.) a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctorate of Engineering (D. Eng.), and a graduate certificate in Systems Engineering Practice. Systems Engineering gained full Department status in 2019. The Systems Engineering courses (and all degrees) are offered face-to-face and by distance delivery, synchronously and asynchronously and may include lecture, seminar, and other distance education formats. Position Summary
The Department of Systems Engineering is seeking a full-time, regular 12-month appointment, Marketing and Communication Coordinator. This position develops and executes communications and marketing initiatives, events, and campaigns that support and advance the reputation of the department and its programs. This position works collaboratively with the department, college, and university partners to create and distribute stories that supports strategic enrollment, retention, engagement, reputation, and other goals. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to diversity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse persons and the ability to manage office workflow and work successfully both individually and in a team-based environment. Occasional local and in-state travel will be required.
This individual will organize and conduct marketing outreach efforts to support the department’s educational degree programs. Must be aware of department growth initiatives regarding the market and targeted customers/relationships to assist the department in meeting customer needs. This individual will be responsible for planning and implementing strategic communications and marketing efforts for the department across multiple social media platforms. Other critical tasks include: Implementing a strategic communications plan and developing a strategic marketing plan to meet departmental goals for internal and external audiences; executing on department storytelling, managing social media, and maintaining departmental website content; publishing news, events, and recruitment content; promoting events and other community engagement efforts; using analytics to inform content and strategy decisions; skillfully managing multimedia including web, digital signs, and photography or video production; and working collaboratively with graduate student advisors and the Director of Communications in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering on college-wide marketing, branding, and storytelling initiatives.
Required Job Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, engineering, or relevant discipline
● Minimum two years of relevant communications or marketing experience
● Experience with professional social media and website management
● Experience with writing and editing in print and online formats (press releases, feature stories, web content, social medias) for a variety of audiences
Preferred Job Qualifications
● Master’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or relevant discipline
● Experience working in higher education or science communication
● Experience with visual storytelling (photography, videography)
● Knowledge of marketing principles, best practices, and techniques relevant to non-traditional graduate student recruitment
● Demonstrated experience/proficiency with developing or implementing a strategic communications plan
● Demonstrated experience/proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Lightroom, etc.)

Essential Duties

·Write stories about the research, engagement, and outreach efforts of faculty and students.
·Write profiles of graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni and publish on communications platforms
·Collaborate with Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering communications team to promote department news to the college and university level. Facilitate connection between faculty and university news team for media requests.
·Execute and update department strategic communications plan.
·Develop and execute digital strategy across a range of platforms including department webpage and social media accounts, Source, and other outlets
·Maintain department website including content generation, updating of visual design and incorporating accessibility best practices
·Maintain a social media presence for the department in line with its strategic communications and marketing plans
·Manage department marketing and outreach materials including giveaways/promotions.
·Maintain data and metrics to demonstrate efficacy of social media and web efforts and use to inform decisions.
·Coordinate photo and video shoots; take photos and produce video as needed
·Produce slides for department digital monitor
·Special projects and/or other duties as assigned

·Cultivate and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with all constituents: department and college colleagues, campus partners, alumni, students, industry partners, donors, community.
·Strategically develop relationships with alumni through engaged storytelling 
·Develop and execute quarterly newsletter for department alumni & friends
·Work with Department Head to develop assets for industry partner visits and events
·Work with graduate student advisors to develop and execute advertising and recruiting materials following the graduate recruitment cycle
·Assist other staff with coordinating and running department events and recruiting efforts
·Create advertising materials and market for community outreach and recruitment efforts 
·Special projects and/or other duties as assigned

·Provide stories for Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering Source
·Participate in monthly College Communicator meetings and contribute to college-wide communications policies and strategies, and requests for content (feature stories and other content related to special projects). 
·Collaborate with other College communicators on social media campaigns and efforts 
·Assist with/provide content for graduate recruitment efforts as directed by the College 
·Maintain and uphold the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering brand and messaging 
·Special projects, marketing campaigns, and/or other duties as assigned
