Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Marine Mammal Stranding Assistant (part-time, temporary position) in the Department of Marine Science. This position will help to develop outreach and fund-raising activities for the South Carolina Marine Mammal Stranding Network and will assist with various activities related to marine mammal strandings in South Carolina. The position will be primarily based in Charleston, SC, and will work closely with the Marine Mammal Strandings and Life History Program at the National Ocean Service Laboratory in Charleston.
Duties include the development and expansion of outreach, educational, and fund-raising activities, assisting with the coordination of network volunteers; assisting in the retrieval and necropsy of dead stranded marine mammals; assisting in the preparation and archiving of marine mammal tissues and skeletons; data entry; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. The candidate should have experience with outreach, educational, and fund-raising activities associated with marine mammal stranding networks. Must have strong oral and written communication skills and data entry/computer skills. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to work in physically demanding situations and adverse weather conditions. Knowledge of life history methods and marine mammal anatomy, necropsy experience, and experience with marine mammal stranding response are preferred.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
