The Missouri Protoplex is a reflection of the statewide ecosystem of manufacturing and technology it serves.  The Protoplex is conceived as a place where industry and academia come together to research new materials and methods, prototype and test new manufacturing processes, develop workforce competencies, and solve multi-discipline problems required to bring integrated cyber-physical manufacturing systems into practical use.

Maintain industrial engineering equipment to support the research function and collaboration with industry partners to enhance the manufacturing landscape in the state of Missouri.


Lead additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and process optimization research projects to enhance the manufacturing ecosystem in the state of Missouri. Collaborate with manufacturing industry partners to identify areas to develop potential research projects.
  • Conduct research projects on additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and 
  • Develop, optimize, and validate additive manufacturing 
  • Collaborate with design teams to provide guidance on designing parts for additive 
  • Evaluate and recommend new additive manufacturing technologies, equipment, and 
  • Establish and implement quality control measures for additive manufacturing 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate knowledge sharing
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation to communicate research findings
  • Adhere to safety practices and ensure compliance with regulations

A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required.

  • Willingness to explore new ideas, experiment with novel approaches, and contribute to development of new additive manufacturing technologies
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as NX, Pro Engineer, Solidworks, Autocad, PTC Creo
  • Ability to collaborate with program managers, manufacturing leads, customers, and functional leads, and to provide daily direction and guidance to junior associates
  • Hands on experience implementing manufacturing system level design improvements Experience in planning and executing capital improvement or research projects, managing timelines, resources, and budgets effectively; Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and
  • Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and process balancing;
  • Knowledge of advanced product quality planning (APQP) and production part approval process (PPAP)
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and quality management systems

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $68,200 to $120,000 annually. 


Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
