Job Summary 


As the Private Markets Managing Director, you will play a crucial role in managing and growing the private markets portfolio of the endowment funds. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing private market investment opportunities, as well as monitoring and managing the existing portfolio. This role requires a deep understanding of the private market landscape, strong analytical and financial modeling skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with external investment partners and internal stakeholders. Strategies directly overseen by the position will include private equity, private credit, and venture capital.  Knowledge of other private assets including real assets and real estate is also desired.  


The position is remote. A willingness to travel to manager meetings and conferences and attendance of Investment Committee meetings and other on campus meetings as required by the Chief Investment Officer.  


Essential Functions 


  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the private market portfolio of the endowment funds, including monitoring the performance of existing investments, conducting regular valuation assessments, and providing recommendations for asset allocation adjustments. 

  • Investment Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and due diligence on potential private investment opportunities, including analyzing financial statements, conducting industry and market research, and evaluating investment risks and return potential. 

  • Deal Sourcing and Execution: Proactively identify and source new investment opportunities through various channels, such as third-party advisors, industry networks, conferences, and relationships with investment banks and intermediaries. Lead the end-to-end investment process, including deal structuring, negotiation, and execution. 

  • Investment Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor the performance of portfolio investments, including tracking financial metrics, assessing management teams, and conducting regular portfolio reviews. Prepare investment reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, including the investment committee and senior management. 

  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external investment partners, such as private equity firms, investment banks, and co-investors. Collaborate with these partners on due diligence, deal execution, and ongoing portfolio management activities. 

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate investment risks through thorough analysis, stress testing, and scenario modeling. Work with the Performance Analyst in developing risk management strategies and recommend risk mitigation measures to protect the endowment fund's capital. 

  • Industry and Market Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory developments within the private equity space. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on your analysis. 

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team. 


Required Qualifications 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Related Field or Equivalent   

  • Minimum ten years of experience in private market, investment banking, or a similar field, with a strong track record of executing successful private equity investments. 


Preferred Qualifications 


  • Advanced degree in Finance, MBA, or a related field and/or CFA/FRM/CAIA designation strongly preferred. 

  • In-depth knowledge of the private equity industry, including deal structuring, valuation methods, and exit strategies. 

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate investment opportunities and perform detailed financial analysis. 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex investment concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. 


  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with external investment partners and stakeholders. 

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage a team. 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 

  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all aspects of work.

Additional Information 


This position is classified as Exempt, grade Q. Compensation for this grade ranges from $162,030 to $243,040 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
