Job Summary | Manage and supervise the VA certification unit and the certification process for military benefits, ensuring accurate and timely submission to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Advise student Veterans, their families and dependents of their rights under military service benefits acts and other relevant legislation. Serve as lead School Certifying Official (SCO); maintain compliance with state and federal regulations governing the application of military-connected education benefits. Serves as University liaison; provides accurate information to student veterans, dependents, and university and VA officials. Facilitates collaborative relationships with departments campus wide to ensure quality of service and compliance with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Hires, trains, and supervises one or more direct reports, ensuring team members’ competency and effectiveness. |

Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. |
