Advertised Job Summary
The Manager of Scholar Engagement will manage a robust set of intellectual, learning and social programs to enhance student engagement, persistence and overall success with a keen emphasis on effectively implementing High Impact Practices (HIPs). Will manage student programs such as Rising Scholars, African-American Leadership Conference (AALC), Dominion Energy Power Forward High School Pipeline program, the Power Forward D&I Conference, Business Success Academy and Launchpad program. Will also assist with establishing and managing mentorship programs, supporting HBC collaborations and facilitating various trainings/engagement with D&I student organizations and other stakeholders as needed.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 3 years related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in social science or a related field and 3 years of relevant work experience in higher education or non-profit sector is preferred. The desired candidate will have at least 3 years prior experience effectively engaging stakeholders and developing collaborative programs in a higher education environment. Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external partners to develop and sustain support for programmatic activities is a must. Demonstrated success in relationship building and a track record of leveraging resources to accomplish strategic objectives is a must. Advanced networking and interpersonal skills are preferred. 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to develop strong multi-stakeholder relationships to advance student success is a must; as well as the ability to communicate transparently and respectfully. 
 
Experience working directly with students in an administrative/leadership role. 
 
Ability to accomplish tasks through delegation and empowerment of others. 
 
Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
 
Knowledge of relevant laws (i.e. municipal, state, and federal) that may apply to higher education administration. 
 
Ability to balance multiple demands, and with a strong outcome focus. 
 
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in collegial and professional environments. 
 
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex, detail-oriented work.
