The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics -Pulmonology has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Research Support. The Manager, Research Support provides program support to facilitate research. Furthermore, the Manager, Research Support oversees research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases.

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures and ensures all research is undertaken according to best practices.

  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students.

  • Conducts meetings with research and other staff, outside agencies, and other applicable organizations and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Provides technical and program support and resolves operational problems.

  • Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts and other program-related documents and reports.

  • Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions.

  • Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.

  • Contributes to and has oversight on intra- and extramural grant submissions.

  • Responsible for all aspects of proposal development in close conjunction with Faculty. This includes all aspects of budget development requiring detailed knowledge of agency and University policies.

  • Coordinates and supervises the implementation of multiple complex clinical and basic research protocols.

  • Develop study-specific SOPs and templates with guidance from the PI and Research Director.

  • Oversees study recruitment activities and implements strategies to increase accrual.

  • Work with other research supporting offices (Pharmacy, labs, CTRS, JHS, IRB, etc.) on the activation and requirements based on protocol specifications and applicable policies and regulations.

  • Plans and operationalizes strategies to monitor, document, report, and follow up on unanticipated occurrences and protocol deviations. Develops and implements preventive/corrective actions.

  • Develops, disseminates, and assures adherence to study-related clinical research best practices/scientific manuals.

  • Assumes leadership in protocol implementation and study progress, keeping investigators apprised of study progress at the Division.

  • Responsible for the recruitment and follow-up of the protocol requirements in the clinical trials of the division, including obtaining informed consent.

  • Organize and manage the regulatory documents required for studies at the division.

  • Organizes/manages site visits and internal/external monitor and auditing visits and activities as assigned in the studies open at the division.

  • Coordinates research team meetings; ensures communications across the board.

  • Complete performance evaluations for direct reports.

  • Coordinate and maintain the CAB activities, including but not limited to scheduling site meetings, coordinating attendance at national conferences, educational opportunities, etc.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and execution of the quality control and quality assurance of the projects at the division.

  • Work and oversight the development of study budgets and sponsor require documents.

  • Coordinates the compilation of information needed for research reports and peer-reviewed publications; develops strategies to disseminate information to clinical personnel, professional audiences, and stakeholders.

  • Maintains requisite skills and mandatory training in safety, equality, responsible conduct of research, continuing education, and research competencies.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                         

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
