Position Summary
Position is responsible for providing effective leadership of the Clinical Research Laboratory and Education Operations for WISE and WUIMIS. Achieve exceptional success in the key areas: Service Excellence, Training Programs, Quality, and Positioning for the Future. Help establish and maintain direction through effective management of operations and strategic planning.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Focuses and directs WISE and WUIMIS in conjunction with guidance from the program directors.
  • Manages programs, courses, and research initiatives in conjunction with physicians, multiple levels of learners, industry, and administration.
  • Oversees compliance of the WU Code of Conduct, privacy, confidentiality and department policies.
  • Works closely with administration to assure high quality services. Coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other departments.
  • Possesses up-to-date knowledge in the profession and understands the issues relevant to the institution.
  • Coordinates strategies and efforts within areas of responsibility. 
  • Understands the impact of decisions in other areas.
  • Demonstrates leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Identifies appropriate resources and business processes, sets priorities, delegates authority and meets deadlines.
  • Promotes continuous improvement. Takes responsibility to improve quality of services, identifies problems, intervenes or notifies appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Determines and obtains space, equipment and material necessary for successful project objectives.
  • Interfaces with faculty with interest in running courses to determine objectives, available funding sources, logistics of administering the course, performing course evaluations, interacting with vendors, operating room and other personnel as needed.
  • Writes and updates Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols for Principal Investigators within the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
  • Places orders within the IACUC and protocol guidelines.
  • Renews/amends protocols when needed.                                                               
  • Responsible for budget preparation and fiscal management. Prepares, submits and manages education grants.
  • Assures that expenditures of funds are appropriate and allocates resources within budget limitations.
  • Plans, develops and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenue for WUIMIS and WISE.
  • Manages and reports financial status of division and track financial status of research activities.
  • Oversees simulator and device acquisition, inventory and maintenance.
  • Prepares annual American College of Surgeons Program for Accreditation of Education Institutes (AEI)  report, recertification documents and prepare for site visits. Organizes and prepares reports for biannual steering committee meetings.
  •  Directs recruitment, selection, evaluation and training of personnel who provide education/research services.  


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in hospital/healthcare administration, business, physical or life science.
  • Great analytical and problem solving research skills.
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a diverse environment.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or related field.
  • Five years of management or supervisory experience.
  • ACRP certification.

Salary Range
$53,000.00 - $96,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
