Chief Objective of Position
The Manager of Video Production will direct and produce all video content for the Christopher Newport University department of athletics, excluding coaching film, specifically: live high-definition webcasts of sporting events, feature video content, and all aspects of the stadium videoboard. This position will develop and grow the video capabilities of the department by focusing on integration of corporate partners and distribution of content through CNUsports.com, social media and the stadium videoboard.
Work Tasks
  • Direct and produce live, high-definition video webcasts via the selected online distribution platform for CNU sporting events.
  • Produce feature video content for use on CNUsports.com and social media outlets.
  • Direct all content on the stadium videoboard to promote an exciting and interactive game atmosphere.
  • Create highlight packages for CNU sporting events to be distributed through digital media and to local television stations.
  • Recruit, train and manage a diverse workforce of student employees to aid in daily operations of the video production program.
  • Work with the office of athletic communications to identify, and produce, video content to support strategic initiatives.
  • Provides a customer service approach to more effectively promote the “students first” initiatives ensuring that all constituents are served in a fast, friendly, efficient, and effective manner. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports CNU Traditions and the “students first” value at CNU and routine of going the extra mile in service.
  • Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.
  • This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position
  • Ability to produce high quality video content in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with various constituencies.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Working knowledge of various video hardware and software, including, or comparable to: NewTek TriCaster video production system, FinalCut Pro editing software, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Education
Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree and experience that equates to an advanced degree.
Additional Consideration - Education
Master’s Degree in video production, communications, or other related fields; or a Bachelor’s Degree and work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
Experience Required
  • Successful experience working in an intercollegiate or professional sports environment producing video content.
Additional Consideration - Experience
Salary Information Starting at $48,000, commensurate with education and experience.
