Job Summary
The Hatfield Marine Science Center invites applications for a Manager of Student and Campus Services. This is a full-time, (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Manager of Student and Campus Services (MSCS) works with Hatfield leadership to create strategies for, execute, and manage the activities supporting student and campus life at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) in accordance with educational, scholarship, and engagement missions.
The MSCS provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of the student and campus life activities including operations in housing, student health and wellness, recreation, student leadership development, student behavior and care, and other aspects of campus and student life. The position is the principal liaison with the Division of Student Affairs at OSU and Corvallis units leading or partnering in the delivery of services at HMSC. The MSCS serves as a strategic advisor to the Associate Vice President for Research and Operations for HMSC and on matters of student and staff experience, campus wellness and success. The MSCS identifies, develops, and implements strategies, programs, and practices that ensure effective and rewarding student and employee experiences that promote a climate of inclusion and equity.
The MSCS oversees the Student and Campus Services team, including housing and student support operations and is a member of the leadership team for the HMSC.
The Hatfield Marine Science Center, located in Newport, Oregon, is a research and educational center of Oregon State University. The center currently supports 450+ tuition-based degree seeking students and experiential scholars.

Key Responsibilities
Assigned duties outlined below constitute 100% of the position. The split effort within a given year may vary from what is estimated.
30% Lead Student and Campus Services on Hatfield Campus
In collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs, lead the development and management of programs to promote student and employee wellness, community, student onboarding and mentorships, engagement, and involvement.
  • Liaison with DAS and EOA on accommodation coordination.
  • Local Health Navigator in conjunction with OSU’s Student Health Services team
  • Develop and manage student care functions, including the Student Care Team, community care, and student case management regarding crisis and response (including protests and demonstrations).
  • Management of student conduct adjudication and education. Maintain current understanding of Title 9/OSU student policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Student’s Office and campus public safety and other university leaders in developing protocols and leading response to threats and other emergencies.
  • Facilitate campus-wide grievances and conflicts (formal and informal) and help navigate the OSU reporting process as needed. Ensure coordination with OSU policies and practices and compliance with applicable federal, state, and university statutes, policies, and practices.
  • Develop and lead campus and student life, recreation, and well-being programming.
  • Provide a bridge to Graduate School resources for students at HMSC.

20% Lead Hatfield-based Experiential Programs (student facing)
Work collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, researchers, advisors, the Division of Student Affairs, and other key participants to build robust and meaningful, year-round residencies and experiential opportunities.
  • Lead the Hatfield Internship Committee, overseeing the HMSC summer internship program for several units offering internships at the coast, to include:
    • Manage/lead intern selection and placement process (incoming summer 120+ Resident OSU/Non-OSU scholars)
    • Build equitable and standardized intern intake/assignment process.
    • Support equitable and standardized intern experience across units.
  • In conjunction with university-wide intern/scholar programs, manage experiential resources at the coast, balancing priorities among partners and creating equity.
  • Partnering with REU Experience staff, develop and maintain a portfolio of intern opportunities/mentors.
  • Develop a catalog of externships with community/industry/agency partners, accessible to scholars/interns and agency partners.

15% Develop and Manage Experiential Mentor Support Program (faculty facing)
  • Creation and management of the Mentor Support Program for Experiential Opportunities to include:
    • Recruit Mentors/Labs with the goal of increasing the number of available experiential opportunities.
    • Train and support Mentors/Labs for positive experiential learning experiences.
  • Provide continued support of Labs, Mentors, and Interns by dealing with requests for accommodations, addressing justice, equity, diversity, inclusion issues (JEDI), and responding to any other issues that might arise during these experiential opportunities. This JEDI support work could be in conjunction with the Equity Leader.

15% Hatfield Housing Management
  • Responsibility for the financial management of Hatfield housing including revenue generation and cost management.
  • General oversight on Housing Policy and Procedures.
  • Oversee Hatfield Housing personnel which includes the Hatfield Housing Coordinator and seasonal Resident Assistant.
  • Oversee day-to-day housing operations. Conflict resolution for housing issues that require escalation to management.

10% Manage Student Business Processes.
  • Faculty mentor of Hatfield Student Organization (HsO); including oversight of HsO budget and finances.
  • Manage HMSC Scholarship and Awards program in collaboration with the Research Program Manager.
  • Mentor/support students in their implementation of awards/grants including travel and expense reporting.
  • Support Research Office finance team with tuition reimbursement and stipend allocation.

What You Will Need
  • Master’s Degree in higher-education administration or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree AND 5 years of applicable experience.
  • A minimum of three years in progressively responsible student services or student affairs (or related areas) management roles with significant management and supervisory work.
  • Evidence of a collaborative, team-oriented, results-oriented, and evidence-based leadership style.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and strategic direction to diverse operational units.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and reward high-quality staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to foster collaboration and trust; ability to inspire others to high levels of performance.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Ten years in progressively responsible management roles in student affairs or related areas.
  • Experience in student conduct adjudication and student crisis response and coordination for students and/or employees.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management of a diverse, mission-critical organization.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic change or improvement in an organization.
  • Experience with or willingness to engage in shared governance with students and faculty.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills that are respectful of diverse viewpoints and can communicate effectively with stakeholders both inside and outside the university.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Largely a traditional work schedule. Some evening and weekend work is likely. On-call response and occasional travel may be required.
