Position Focus:

The Yale University Art Gallery (YUAG) seeks a Manager of Infrastructure and Services (MIS) to lead the Gallery’s technology operations and to head the IT services team that supports the technology needs of the museum. Reporting to the Director of Information and Digital Services (IDS), this position also collaborates with Yale Information Technology Services (ITS) and other campus-based technology staff. The MIS is responsible for identifying, supporting, and developing solutions for front and backend technical needs at the Gallery. 

This position is charged with oversight of YUAG IT systems and is the primary contact for systems and support services for IDS. Responsibilities include systems related to collections management, operations, facilities, as well as areas such as the DAM and Archives. The MIS is expected to maintain a broad mastery of services as well as internal operations. The MIS actively partners with stakeholders across the museum, as well as working closely with Yale ITS, and external partners and vendors.

The MIS will lead the YUAG Helpdesk to deliver consistent, reliable, and secure technology. The MIS is a key member of the IDS team dedicated to delivering support and services to achieve mission-driven strategic goals and aspirations. 

Principal Responsibilities include the following: Provides primary support for Gallery’s services and infrastructure and act as secondary support for SQL and development environments. Oversees systems and services; manages and coordinates system upgrades, enhancements, new release installations, and special projects related to systems and services in functional areas. Manages and implements guidelines and systems and recommends changes to maintain consistency with the mission of the department objectives. Ensures timely and effective project delivery, and on-going support for projects, using excellent project management skills. Develops technical and functional plans, strategies, and service goals. Participates on project teams and acts as a liaison with other institutions, campus organizations, vendors, and committees. Works with all units to identify, analyze, and develop approaches that successfully meets the goals and objectives of ITS and the University as a whole. Defines and tracks service metrics and works with staff to meet client needs and service standards. Implements appropriate controls and quality assurance; ensures adherence to the process, consistent and efficient trouble resolution, error reduction, and continuous process improvement. Manages the operating budget for their organizational unit. Recruits and trains technical staff. Ensures compliance and timelines of all Federal and State regulatory requirements. Manages a staff of exempt and no-exempt employees. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field and six years of related technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated expertise providing technical IT services in a museum, research and/or academic environment.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to embrace innovation and proactive solutions in seeking out and implementing new technology systems within an infrastructure of support.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven knowledge of hands-on experience with software development and server (Windows) management.  Ability to work across multiple desktop platforms in a support environment (Windows and Macintosh).


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated success in handling complex projects; to include creating project plans, communicating project, and executing on plans. Proven ability to communicate complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven strong decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills with ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Proven superior interpersonal and collaborative skills.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Advanced degree in a Computer Science related field.  Broad project management experience, resource allocation, and technologies experience, including SQL databases, programming, cloud and physical infrastructure.
