Your Role and Responsibilities

The Manager of Faculty Administration provides oversight and leadership for all operations of the School of Engineering’s (SoE) Faculty Administration Team. The Manager’s work supports all SoE faculty under the leadership of the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Faculty Administration and the Senior Associate Dean for the Faculty Affairs.  The Manager serves as the central Faculty Administration liaison for the 10 academic and research groups, in the SoE, the Nelson Center and the School of Professional Studies, and five+ Centers.  The Manager oversees and manages faculty recruitments, appointments, reappointments, promotions, sabbaticals and reporting for both regular and term faculty appointments. Advises various Deans and research/academic group representatives, search chairs, to ensure compliance with University and SoE faculty policies and procedures. The incumbent manages the design, planning and implementation of initiatives, polices and procedures for faculty that provide a positive, well-informed environment for faculty. The Manager oversees the Workday Academics, ensuring data integrity and serves as a liaison between the SoE and other departments related to faculty administration. The Manager also serves as the content expert for visas and assigns work to and supervises the Faculty Administration Coordinator. Participates in strategic planning, collaborates on new initiatives, and fosters a culture of continuous process improvement. 

A strategic partner for SoE, the Manager works collaboratively with SoE stakeholders: the Dean of the Faculty, OISSS, Deans’ offices, Finance, academic/research groups, the Office of the General Counsel, School of Public Health, BioMed and Workday Operations on various faculty-related issues and policies. Manages staff and provides professional development opportunities. 

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree required, advanced degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

5-7 years of professional experience in Faculty Administration, Human Resources or related field.

Experience in higher education preferred.

Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize workload in a multi-task environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and implement short- and long-term goals independently, but also as a strong team member when the situation warrants.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex policies governing faculty personnel actions. 
  • Strong skill in analyzing policy, procedures and other directives leading to the formation of actionable recommendations.
  • Strong analytical skills required.
  • Strong customer service orientation and advanced oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents, both internal and external.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work with, and communicate complex issues to, a diverse group of people with tact and diplomacy.
  • Computing skills sufficient for effective communication, maintaining records and performing analyses.
  • Detail orientated with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise tact, discretion, judgment and ability to prioritize task completion.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of Google docs/sites, Brown sites, FileMaker, Excel, Word
