Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Family Science holds diversity, equity, and inclusion at its core. The Department Manager will be part of a diverse, collaborative and supportive team providing resources and support to approximately 250 undergraduates, 50 graduate students, 20 faculty members and countless external guests and visitors. The Department Manager is the senior administrator for the Department of Family Science.  Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department, the Department Manager is responsible for the oversight of day to ­day operations of the department and will collaborate with the FMSC administrative team to ensure successful execution of all administrative aspects of the business office, undergraduate and graduate programming, staffing and faculty affairs. This position is responsible for the management, supervision and training of the Program Administrative Specialist, (1) graduate assistant and (1) hourly student worker to support administrative operations, the maintenance of the physical plant, oversight of IT related services and facility needs. 
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of progressive responsibility and supervisory experience in human resources, personnel and/or office management is required. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently on assignments. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact. Ability to perform in a high pressure, fast paced working environment. Ability to initiate a proactive approach to problem-solving and organization. Ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.  Proven proficiency with standard office, business software applications including Microsoft Office Suites, Google Forms and databases. 
Preferences:
Minority and women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Master’s degree in higher education, human resource management, family science, public health, or related field. Five or more years of senior level administrative and supervisory experience. Experience working in an academic institution is highly desired. Preference will be given to those with University of Maryland experience
