Job Summary
The Manager, Network Field Services is responsible for the install, operations, maintenance, and lifecycle management of UCSF’s network equipment, software, uninterruptible power supplies and management intermediate distribution frames (IDF) facilities for the university’s enterprise wired and wireless networks. The Manager, Network Field Services maintains up-to-date network equipment asset inventories and develops and executes multi-year refresh schedules and its associated budgets in accordance with equipment manufactures’ recommended lifecycle. The managers leads a 24//7/365 first-level response for network service disruptions in the university’s buildings, facilities, and remote sites.

Department Description
The Manager, Network Field Services will report to the Director, Network Services who serves as the senior network leader for information technology at UCSF. The Manager, Network Field Services is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operations of network equipment and software across the campus and health missions.
The IT Network Services department is comprised of Network Security, Network Field Services, Wired and Wireless, and Construction and Cabling Services. The Network Services department provides services such as enterprise-wide wireless and wired network services, cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) in a 24/7/365 health care setting, and academic and research environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 2-5 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and IT Service Management Framework
- Requires in-depth knowledge of own area of functional responsibility, with a broad knowledge of the IT organization.
- Has thorough knowledge of data network systems, wired and wireless.
- Must have knowledge of operating policies and procedures and the ability to determine a course of action based on these guidelines.
- Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
- Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
- Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across the unit or department.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
- Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.
- Industry Standard Network Security Certification
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
- Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Telecommunications
