Manager, Laboratory

Job Summary:

Manages, plans, and coordinates activities within the Laboratory. Maintains quality and timeliness of all laboratory operations within budgetary guidelines.

 

Job Duties:

1.      Manages laboratory services, including workflow, administrative procedures, operations, and strategic planning in order to maintain an efficient laboratory environment.

2.      Ensures appropriate lab compliance with accrediting agency regulations (IBC, IRB, IACUC, etc.).

3.      Establishes schedule for the laboratory meetings including all full lab meetings, subgroup meetings, and conference participation.

4.      Oversees laboratory safety policies, implements training, and mentors department for compliance.

5.      Coordinates laboratory administration; manages and authorizes all purchasing expenditures for supplies and equipment.

6.      Ensures that all equipment is inventoried, maintained, and properly functioning (including upkeep and renewal of service contracts).

7.      Management duties include onboarding and training of new employees (especially junior lab members including undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and technicians); assigning duties to lab members, appraising productivity and efficiency, and ensuring all lab operations run smoothly; handles complaints and grievances and discusses problems with the PI as necessary.

8.      Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in basic sciences or related field is required.

Preferred (not required):

MS or PhD degree in an area of biomedical sciences.

 

Experience:

Five (5) years of experience with increasing responsibilities that are directly related to the assigned laboratory is required. Requires at least two (2) years of experience in supervising laboratory personnel and activities.
