Position Summary
The Washington University Center for Cellular Imaging (WUCCI) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is a dynamic microscopy center whose mission is to provide reliable and affordable access to state-of-the-art imaging technologies and work collaboratively with Wash U researchers to advance our understanding of human health and disease. The Center supports Wash U principal investigators by providing professional guidance in experimental design, sample preparation and data analysis, as well as working to develop and apply new imaging technologies to problems of critical biological significance.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all billing related to the WUCCI Recharge Center.
  • Responsible for all expense reports, purchasing, receiving and invoice statements related to the WUCCI.
  • Responsible for fiscal management of instrument service contracts.
  • Responsible for tracking micro-grant and internal funding expenditures and reporting balances.
  • Reports instrumentation usage statistics to Scientific Director.
  • Prepares financial statements using different frameworks (indirect-cost based, and accrual based).
  • Performs monthly financial audits of accounts to ensure obligations are paid and income is recorded promptly; provides direct oversight for all purchasing activities for the Center.
  • Provides the Scientific Director and Business Director with monthly and annual financial reports and analysis.
  • Works with Research Administrator in relation to reports and projections involving research funding and integration with the overall WUCCI Recharge Center budget.
  • Manages all WUCCI grant funds, including reporting, budgeting, purchasing and payroll sourcing.
  • Coordinates effort and payroll sourcing for WUCCI staff supported by grant funds outside of Neuroscience.
  • Prepares reports on deliverables for progress reports and grant renewals which utilize WUCCI services.
  • Serves as the primary iLab contact for the University, determines the appropriate service contracts and negotiates terms with the vendor.
  • Provides comprehensive monthly/quarterly usage reports for external users.
  • Provides comprehensive analysis of recharge revenue and works collaboratively the WUCCI Scientific Director and Business Director to support the process of developing and revising annual usage rates for center services.
  • Provides assistance to the Business Director to respond to audit requests and questions from various University offices.
  • Responsible for calendar management and travel arrangements for Scientific Director of the WUCCI and provision of organizational support for scheduling for WUCCI educational activities (seminars, workshops etc).
  • Serves as primary administrative contact and meets regularly with WUCCI team leaders to discuss operational and financial issues.
  • Serves as primary administrative contact for users; create user profiles for new labs and resolve billing conflicts.
  • Reviews and approves all time reports and time-off requests.
  • Provides day-to-day management of all WUCCI operations.
  • Assists with special projects (e.g. Strategic and Long-Term Financial and Capital Plans, Management Reporting Systems, New Program Financial Viability, etc.). Define and execute initiatives covering the full range of project lifecycles (scope definition, requirements gathering, development, testing, and implementation).
  • Develops improvements in information retrieval and analysis processes, acting as a liaison to help streamline critical processes. Develops and coordinate the processes necessary to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Develops and maintains expertise in current and future accounting, budgeting, and reporting tools and systems.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting/finance experience in a complex University environment.
  • iLab experience.
  • Experience with grant administration.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Ability to properly assess pertinent data and develop a framework for effective and practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to present findings succinctly and clearly in narrative, tables and chart forms.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage financial system projects, set priorities and goals, monitor performance against goals and standards, and ensure successful project implementation.


Required Qualifications

Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree in finance and business related field with three to five years related experience.

Salary Range
$55,600.00 - $94,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
