Position Summary:

The primary purpose of the Facilities Planning and Design Manager is to provide supervision, management, and direction in updating UTHealth Houston's master plan, evaluating the use of UTHealth Houston's physical facilities, and providing effective utilization of facilities planning resources. This includes assisting the AVP with creating and communicating procedures, work flows, standards, and operating principles governing staff efforts. This position is also responsible for directing staff, providing institutional standards for space allocation, predictive space and capital modeling, space programming, generating space reports, and project support.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for campus Master Planning, Space Modeling, and Space Programming for the UTHealth Houston Campus.
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining space reporting information for internal and external reports to include the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the campus FACT book, and other required reports.
  • Sets space standards, including assisting in directing the investigation, development, revision, documentation, and implementation of institutional standards programs for space allocation, as well as the associated institutional policies & procedures.
  • Assists in the maintenance and validation of space assignment/utilization, in part, through space management software. Confirms accurate occupancy records and conducts surveys/assessments as necessary.
  • Maintains and updates budget reports, policies and procedures, and associated departmental web pages and software. Directs the creation, refinement, and utilization of standard templates. 
  • Coordinates with Facilities Planning & Engineering leadership to ensure alignment and efficient use of resources within the campus.
  • Assists with vetting and preparing materials for the institutional space committee.
  • Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

  • Architect Certification, Professional Engineer (PE) License, Certified Facility Manager (CFM) from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), or Licensed Interior Designer in the State of Texas preferred. 

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Interior Design, Space Planning, Architecture, Engineering,
and/or Construction Science required.
 

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years of experience in space planning, project management, design, architecture, and/or programming
required.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently to move objects
