Description of Work | Manage, coordinate, and facilitate the UNP Editorial/Design/Production unit, a department of 10 employees (4 project editors, 1 associate production manager, 4 designer/compositors, plus a varying number of student workers (2-4); department project edits, designs, typesets, and manages the printing of around 140 new frontlist titles and 60-70 reprints each year. Ensure that books are launched, priced, edited, designed, typeset, reviewed by authors, corrected, indexed, and sent to the printer, keeping to a preset schedule so that books are out on time as publicized and within budget. Coordinate workflow and facilitate communication among staff within the unit and between units of the press. Ensure constant quality control. Assign projects to project editors, work closely with Lead Senior Designer/Compositor on project assignments and schedules. Prepare yearly budget. Assist in preparation of RFPs and contracts for printing in consultation with the director and assistant production manager. Approve all copyediting, indexing, and production invoices. Minimum Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s in English, history or related field plus five years experience in copyediting and project editing required. Excellent knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style (APA, and MLA) is essential. Excellent knowledge of the conventions of grammar and strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Must have managerial skills and ability to to work with large pool of freelance copyeditors and indexers in work-for-hire relationships. |
