Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide engineering and project management services to the University community for construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and work closely and cooperatively with maintenance/trades personnel and vendors to ensure consistency between new construction and rehabilitation project designs for maintenance and repair requirements. Provide payroll and prevailing wage review for internal billing and contractor billing. Provide technical direction, coordination, and support to URI trade shops to ensure effective shop operations.
Assist in providing engineering and technical services in support of the University; these services may include computer-aided design, GIS systems, new equipment review, and technical problem solving.
Assist in maintaining a complete plan and specification record of the as-built condition of buildings, grounds, utilities, roads, etc.; assist in maintaining those records by utilizing the computerized database, where available, and have an understanding of GIS systems.
Prepare, review, and recommend modifications to plans and specifications for construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance projects for compliance. Provide final building design floor plans to Administrative Services Property Control Division.
Assist in maintaining an inventory of space and space allocation. Provide planning department information about future project needs.
Provide detailed inspection of construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance projects. Generate a list of needed future projects and current ongoing projects. Generate fielded inspection reports as needed.
Provide liaison between customers, contractors, and trades for project management. This includes support to regulatory agencies and building inspector.
Monitor progress of construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance projects, coordinate needs with design and construction agents, and issue reports.
Prepare construction estimates for preliminary engineering and budget studies.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer design of construction, renovation, and deferred maintenance projects.
Provide liaison with outside agencies (federal, state, and local) regarding progress, completion, and project close-out.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers, word processing, database management, use of CAD system, and spreadsheet software. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Minimum of two years construction estimating experience.
3. Minimum of two years construction field engineering experience.
4. Minimum of two years construction management and administration experience.
5. Demonstrated working knowledge of building code requirements and standard construction specifications.
6. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
8. Demonstrated organizational skills.
9. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
10. Demonstrated ability to prepare and present detailed studies and reports to include recommendations concerning the substance of the studies and reports.
11. Demonstrated ability to work with software packages that track and provide building data such as layout and square footage.
12. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
13. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated experience using computer-aided design systems.
2. Demonstrated experience in electrical distribution construction.
3. Demonstrated experience with roofing and window systems.
4. Demonstrated experience working in a large school system.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of dormitory and food service practices.

Environmental Conditions
This position is subject to both inside and outside work and extreme cold and hot temperatures can be encountered in this position. This potential exists where noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator will be required. This position may require occasional bending, reaching, ascending and descending ladders and stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pushing and pulling, lifting, feeling, and hearing (hearing ability at average conversation levels with or without assistive devices.) Must work at URI during storm events.
