Salary Range: Salary: $68,266 to $111,426, based on experience

Essential Functions: 

  •  Business and Quality Integration to include: Review and revise policies and procedures as needed. Monitor department outcomes and adjust processes to ensure evidence-based practices and improve patient and employee satisfaction.  
  • Develop or obtain organizationally approved diet manual, nutrition practice guidelines, and current reference and education materials, and monitor and implement new developments as appropriate. Develop, initiate, and monitor a performance improvement program per regulatory requirements. Coordinate educational programs as requested for dietetics students, residents, medical students, nursing students, personnel, and patients. Establish and integrate department goals with hospital-wide annual goals and visions to provide optimal nutrition care.  
  • Financial Management: Develops operating budget using historical data, trends, and new technology. Develops, recommends, and implements marketing strategies to maintain or increase department revenues. Identify and implement cost-reduction and productivity measures using performance improvement and benchmark data.  
  • Nutrition Services Management: Facilitates and directs the operations using medical nutrition therapy knowledge. Implements standards and processes to ensure that all patients’ nutrition needs are met. Supervise the activities of clinical dietitians and diet technicians according to established department policies.  
  • Personnel Management: Oversees personnel management including recruitment and selection of staff. Recruits, interviews, hires, and facilitates training of clinical nutrition staff to meet department staffing needs. Manage, discipline, and evaluate the performance of clinical nutrition staff based on job requirements and core competencies assigned to the job. Provide or facilitate in-services and training opportunities for clinical nutrition staff. Resolve conflicts using constructive coaching techniques while providing employees with feedback that is timely, clear, and appropriate. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings.  
  • Professional clinical interface: Collaborate with hospital management, professional staff, and food service staff to promote interdepartmental communication and cooperation to ensure patient nutritional needs are met. Collaborate with state and national healthcare professionals and professional organizations via information exchange, benchmarking tools, and attendance at national conferences.  
  • Research to include: Evaluate nutrition care protocols using principles of evidence-based practice to establish and improve nutrition practice guidelines. Be a mentor to department staff in presenting or publishing articles, abstracts, or results of research studies in professional journals or at professional meetings. Review current literature regularly to ensure the most recent advancements in nutrition care are incorporated into nutrition practices and protocols.  
  • Manage the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care.  
  • Monitor and oversee time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely approval for payroll purposes.  
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

    Qualifications

     

    Required Qualifications: 

    • Dietitian licensure from the Missouri Committee of Dietitians board.  
    • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).  
    • Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, education, hospital administration, or business.  
    • Five (5) years of experience as a clinical dietitian.  

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • One (1) year of supervisory experience.   
    • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
