Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Manager of the Campus Center at Rinker is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of student educational experiences, programs, and services offered through the Campus Center at Rinker. The Manager ensures the day-to-day operations and staffing of the Center, the implementation of available student services and programs, and the ongoing maintenance of the facility and facility equipment. The Manager provides an active environment that is continuously evolving congruent with student needs, student development goals, and best practices. The Manager supervises student employees and assists with departmental and divisional initiatives and goals as designated by their supervisor. The Manager reports to the Director of Student Engagement and is a member of the department senior leadership team. This position is located at the Chapman University Rinker Health Science Campus in Irvine, California and supports both the Orange and Rinker campuses.
Responsibilities
Campus Center Facility Management
  • Manage the daily functions of the Campus Center with an emphasis on student development and oversight of public spaces within the facility.
  • Ensure public areas provide a clean, comfortable, and properly maintained environment.
  • Ensure reception desks are staffed during designated hours. This may require evening and/or weekend work to coordinate unexpected gaps in staffing.
  • Oversee reservation of public spaces for private and public use in collaboration with Event Operations, including approving requests for space and meeting with requestors to review needs.
  • Oversee use of Campus Center audio/visual equipment in collaboration with Information Services and Technology.
  • Maintain and implement guidelines and policies for use of public spaces.
  • Identify daily facility needs and work with Event Operations, Facilities Management, Information Systems and Technology, and custodial services to address needs in a timely manner.
  • Use data pertaining to facility maintenance, staffing, and use to analyze operational efficiency and forecast future operational changes and needs.
  • Plan facility-related projects as appropriate and in coordination with campus partners and building occupants.
  • Plan and maintain rotating content for gallery walls managed by the Campus Center.
  • Ensure advanced communication about facility-related updates and services.
  • Ensure adherence to established facility, departmental, and institutional policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensure collaboration with campus departments including, but not limited to, custodial services, Event Operations, Facilities Management, Information Systems and Technology, and Public Safety to address facility-related emergencies, ensure staff and guest safety, and resolve areas of concern relevant to the unique needs of the Center.
  • Coordinate assessment and evaluation of facility performance, usage, and needs.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of student support staff to ensure successful facility management.

Campus Center Programs and Services
  • Design, develop, implement, and promote regular co-curricular programs in consideration of trends and needs related to graduate students’ sense of belonging and development of community.
  • Ensure communication with academic programs to provide variety in programming, clarity in the scope of programming provided by the Campus Center, and appropriate timing of programming.
  • Extend and support designated departmental programs and resources coordinated on the Orange Campus to the Campus Center.
  • Advise other departments and student organizations in the use of public spaces for their event and programming needs.
  • Provide other departments and student organizations with support for connecting to in-house audio/visual equipment.
  • Coordinate assessment and evaluation of Campus Center programming impact and performance.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of student support staff to ensure successful programming.

Departmental responsibilities
  • Assist with applicable Department of Student Engagement programs and services as designated by supervisor.
  • Ensure adherence to University, Division, and Department expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a member of the departmental leadership team & participate in senior staff meetings and department trainings & projects.

Other:
  • Assist with applicable Division of Student Affairs programs and services as requested by the Dean of Students Office and/or as designated by supervisor.
  • Ensure adherence to University, Division, and Department expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of student development theory, trends, and issues in higher education.
  • Prior experience in Student Affairs working with leadership development and supervision of student employees in higher education.
  • Significant experience managing part-time employee work schedules to meet business needs.
  • Significant experience working with student union/campus center operations and implementation of student-oriented community-building programming.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and work independently with superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute logistics for special events, including coordination of media services, catering, and facilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of training principles, methods, techniques and formats.
  • Commitment to enhancing and promoting diversity in higher education.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.

  • Strong computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, internet and email software.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare, proofread, and edit clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence and other documents.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and service to students.
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures that pertain to the duties of the position.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to carry out duties in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience reviewing and executing contracts with external vendors.
  • Graphic design and videography experience.
  • Master’s degree or on-going graduate work in higher education, college student affairs, or a related field desired.
