Position Overview

The Manager, Business Operations oversees operational and administrative functions for the Ohio State University Alumni Association team to include developing strategy, tools, targets and forecasts related to central and unit specific annual goals, managing the activities and resources for all large-scale projects, fiscal operations (i.e. budget development and reporting), and continuing to build and develop relationships between the Advancement, the Alumni Association, college and unit partners and external partners. They will monitor the effectiveness of programs, initiatives and monitor philanthropic trends and benchmarks, and identify organizational cross-collaborative initiatives that align with the Ohio State Alumni Association (OSUAA) Strategic Plan. Work is primarily achieved through others with direct accountability for setting direction and deploying resources.

This position reports to and works closely with the Executive Director and Alumni Association leadership team to make recommendations on and adjustments to strategy and tactics to meet annual goals and objectives.  This position will also lead special projects and guide project management for a team of professionals.  Additionally, they will represent the Executive Director as needed for subject matter expertise of the team.

The Manager serves as a supervisor to professional staff, operates with a high degree of independence, decision making capabilities, judgment, consistency, quick problem-solving ability, discretion, and financial management in accomplishing objectives, and will exhibit flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and demands to include occasional evening and weekend work. They are expected to be familiar with and able to utilize MS Office programs and alumni/donor database/CRM.  This position will manage relationships with vendors, including contracts, legal counsel, technology, and software and ensure business efficiency.

With a vision of being the heart of the alumni community inspiring and cultivating engaged citizens throughout their Buckeye journeys, our organizational purpose is to build a community of lifelong champions. We represent the alumni association of the future and believe in elevating the alumni and Buckeye community experience. As an association, we are a shared service across Advancement as the experts in engagement and the constituent journey. We are one team aligning engagement and philanthropy, responsible for creating advocates on behalf of Ohio State. The organization is supported by 60+ employees, a Board of Directors, and Alumni Advisory Council.

Duties and Responsibilities

55%      

Oversees operational and administrative functions for the Ohio State University Alumni Association. Including developing and managing the budget, fiscal-year and mid-year planning processing and project management support. Manages individual contributors who exercise independence in assignments, in developing strategy, and implementing university-wide strategies and tactics to meet annual goals and objectives for OSUAA.  Represents the Executive Director, as needed, for subject matter expertise of the team. Develops, implements and monitors data analyzation tools and practices to support  the team.  Oversees short and long-term planning processes for OSUAA. Build and develop relationships between the Advancement, the Alumni Association, college and unit partners, and external partners. Work is primarily achieved through others with direct accountability for setting direction and deploying resources.

Hires, trains, and supervises staff; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development. Completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues. Is responsible for using independent, consistent, and fair judgement in exercising authority. Develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided; builds a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging amongst team members.

Oversees project management and coordination with internal partners for all large-scale and special projects to focus on storytelling, utilizing data and key metrics that advance the strategic direction of the OSUAA. Managing the activities and resources for all large-scale projects, fiscal operations (i.e. budget development and reporting) develops strategy, tools, targets and forecasts related to central and unit specific annual goals, monitor the effectiveness of programs, initiatives and monitor philanthropic trends and benchmarks, and identify organizational cross-collaborative initiatives that align with the Ohio State Alumni Association (OSUAA) Strategic Plan. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Five (5) relevant years of professional administrative and/or business operations experience. 

  • Experience managing and executing projects.

  • Experience managing people or a team

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience 

  • Experience in a university setting and/or non-profit enterprise.

  • Eight (8) relevant years of professional administrative and/or business operations experience.

  • Three (3) relevant years of management experience or an equivalent amount of related experience.

The pay range for this job profile is $85,000 - $113,500 (min - mid). The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
