Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Position provides daily operational oversight of 5 Housekeeping zones (approximately 80 employees) including 5 Supervisors, 8 – 10 Team Leaders, 3-5 Housekeeping Leads, and 65 Housekeepers required to clean approximately 3.5 million square feet of campus buildings. In addition, this position manages the following: Special request/event coverage (reimbursable work task, Commencement, MD Day, etc.), overtime rotation management, Vendor Managed Inventory supply program, equipment inventory/PM/repair activities, workload review and implementation, project work reporting, vendor/off campus cleaning contracts, weekend and holiday coverage, Tablet/Pager/Phone/Software management, as well as the daily rotation oversight for absenteeism and medical restrictions. Excellent communication and people skills are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: 
  • 10 years’ experience, to include least 5 years supervising housekeeping and/or facilities operations, preferably within a large custodial operation (one with at least 50 employees). With a Bachelor’s degree, must have a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in a large custodial and/or facilities operation including a minimum of 5 years of relevant supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Strong organizational, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a large and diverse group of employees and to establish a unified working relationship.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the housekeeping trade, and of the OSHA/MOSH regulations related to the trade. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of supervision in the housekeeping trade with the ability to plan and organize work. 
  • Skill in the use, care and storage of equipment and supplies. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computer for basic functions (email, word processing) as well as more complex software such as spreadsheet, scheduling and project management. 
  • Experience in supervision and training of skilled and unskilled employees in housekeeping trade. 
  • Strong skills in the management of budgets and inventory, and the ability to make independent decisions quickly.

Additional Certifications:
Position requires operation of a state vehicle; incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license (or equivalent) with fewer than 6 points.

The hiring range for this position is $69,680-$87,100 .

Physical Demands
  • Incumbent will be required to occasionally perform hands on tasks. Incumbent must be able to operate all cleaning equipment and use all supplies and chemicals. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand and walk continuously; to wear and to work with personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.); and work in and around allergens such as dust and chalk. 
  • Standard work hours are Monday-Friday 4:00 AM-12:30 PM.
  • Incumbent is an Essential Employee, subject to a 24-hour, 7-day week span of operation.
