The department of Clinical Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager, Biomedical Engineering to work at UHealth. The Manager, Biomedical Engineering assumes system-wide responsibility for managing quality assurance and projects related to clinical technology. Moreover, this position provides guidance and oversight to biomedical staff and contains adverse event reports about medical equipment.

  • Maintains current knowledge of JCAHO and federal and state regulations.

  • Implements and maintains a quality management plan consistent with the mission and vision of the organization.

  • Develops and monitors an internal reporting structure for quality management and related activities.

  • Ensures the timely reporting of quality data to appropriate individuals through a systematic and defined multidisciplinary process.

  • Educates faculty, administrators, and staff in identifying opportunities for improvement and methods of collecting, analyzing, and reporting findings.

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement.

  • Directs the timely submission of data.

  • Analyzes findings and implements appropriate interventions to demonstrate improvements in quality outcomes.

  • Serves as a liaison to various hospitals, committees, and departments concerning quality management-related matters.

  • Coordinates agendas and prepares and delivers reports at various committee meetings.

  • Monitors licensure status of staff and ensures timely renewal of licensure and certification.

  • Participates in the annual budget process, monitors and controls department expenses, and analyzes and reports on monthly financial variances.

  • Collaborates with departmental managers and senior administrators in program planning.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

  • Facilitates/educates and provides technical expertise to system/access employees and leaders in identifying key performance indicators linked and aligned with organizational strategic goals and performance targets.

  • Participates in reviewing and updating the quality management plan, performance improvement plans, and any policies and procedures under Clinical Engineering routinely and at a minimum of annually by conducting evaluations during routine rounding or audits.

  • Ensures that performance improvement practices are evidenced-based and consistent with regulatory guidelines.

  • Provides ongoing orientation, education, and training on performance improvement based on Clinical Engineering needs assessments.

  • Implements performance improvement methods to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Coaches and facilitates prioritized improvement initiatives to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Identifies and sets appropriate quality standards and parameters for Clinical Engineering services.

  • Maintains oversight of program compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies.

  • Keeps up to date with changes in regulations, standards, and best practices related to Clinical Engineering services and assists the leadership team with updating policies and procedures, as needed. Performs audits of Clinical Engineering services work against regulations, standards, and/or best practices. Reports on audits.

  • Manages the training and certification documentation of all Clinical Engineering staff.

  • Manages the Quality program for the Clinical Engineering department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Minimum five years of relevant experience

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
