About the Epicenter

Considered the “soul” of campus, this living-learning space will prepare students to become thoughtful global citizens committed to enriching the lives of others.
The building features six stories of residential living with a variety of room types to suit the individual needs of 775 students at different stages in their academic career. Residents will converge in the Forum, the gathering space that brings together a broad community of students and practitioners united by a passion for change. Here, residents will convene to participate in trainings, workshops, guest speakers, cultural events, impact collaborations, networking events, conferences, mentorship, community outreach and more.

The Administrative Manager will play a critical role in implementing the Epicenter’s programming and events along with other administrative responsibilities. The Administrative Manager will both plan and implement activities within the building. The Administrative Manager will work closely with leadership from the Sorenson Impact Institute and the Center for Business, Health and Prosperity to develop a detailed understanding of the programmatic goals and objectives for the Epicenter and be responsible to implement activities in support of these goals/objectives. This position will be responsible for administrative functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service and operations pertaining to records maintenance, supply management, office support, and management of other administrative duties.

Essential Functions

1. Forecasts, develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staff management and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.
2. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
3. Participates in University-wide committees to establish customer service standards and administrative plans and policies.
4. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
5. Oversees daily program operations and coordinates program activities.
6. Develops and implements program goals and objectives in coordination with the Epicenter leadership team.
7. Monitors program quality / effectiveness and researches improvement methods.
8. Assist management with front desk support.
9. Manages and coordinates setting up meetings and maintaining agendas, minutes, and action items.
10. Assist with planning and execution of events.
11. Assist with Epicenter outreach efforts including information sessions and tours.
12. Assist with reviewing applications for the Impact & Prosperity Epicenter housing and placement of students in rooms.
13. Assist with program and event budget responsibilities including the administration of scholarships, monitoring event expenses to ensure budget goals are being met, and/or assist with grant writing and other fundraising activities.
14. Writes and edits program related publications and promotional or educational materials.
15. May assign, direct and review work of support staff or students.

Often selects from a predetermined list of alternatives and sometimes recommends or changes policy and procedure based upon amount of discretion given by department. Problems would be referred to superior based upon predetermined guidelines set by the department.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
