Pay Range: $89,880.00 - $146,055.00 / year

Job Description:
To provide leadership oversight to the therapy programs in the acute care setting of UAB Hospital. To lead the physical, occupational and speech therapy disciplines across main and Highlands campuses. To facilitate the process for the provision and documentation of patient care, utilizing best practice standards to improve patient experience. To ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and applicable accreditation standards. To provide direct leadership and oversight of quality, personnel and budget operations for therapy services provided at UAB Hospital.
1. Manages the daily activities of assigned area(s), directly impacting patient care and the delivery of customer services, through interaction with stakeholders including, but not limited to, program leads, colleagues, staff and physicians. Ensures adequate staffing levels commensurate with approved productivity standards for a seven day a week operation. Works closely with Resource Management Systems (RMS) to appropriately prioritize staffing needs. Manages workflow and resources optimally to ensure appropriate levels of patient care. Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives and standards that align with those of UAB Hospital and the department. Upholds the UAB Medicine core values in all interactions with patients, guests and colleagues to sustain a collaborative, respectful and service-oriented department. Manages change and fosters an environment of teamwork to improve care for patients served.
2. Manages human resources functions including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, coaching, training, evaluating and disciplining staff. Collaborates with director to make recommendations regarding personnel actions such as promotions, reclassifications and salary adjustments. Oversees the recruitment process to maintain top talent in the physical, occupational and speech therapy disciplines. Works with RMS and Human Resources to complete processes to facilitate recruitment, development of an interview/recruitment schedule, making hiring decisions and development of an onboarding and training process for newly hired personnel. Develops education and ongoing professional development opportunities for staff; ensures all staff are compliant with annual competency expectations of UAB Medicine as well as their respective disciplines. Responsible for performance review and evaluation in collaboration with program leads and other key stakeholders. Completes annual performance evaluations and follows appropriate action for addressing poor performance. Develops reward and recognition opportunities for staff.
3. Communicates regularly with faculty and staff. Conducts staff meeting at least once a month. Participates in regular rounding/huddles with front-line staff.
4. Manages regulatory, compliance, quality and patient access initiatives. Ensures that acute therapy disciplines meet all regulatory and accreditation standards including, but not limited to, compliance with all CMS and Joint Commission standards for acute care therapy. Participates in UAB Medicine quality and safety programs including data submission and reporting; review of safety and quality opportunities; and ongoing process improvement. Works closely with the Center for Patient Flow, acute care programs, faculty and staff to optimize appropriate length of stay for patients and to ensure an efficient transition from acute care to inpatient rehabilitation at SRC. Works closely with all disciplines on quality initiatives and process improvement strategies to meet or exceed performance on publicly reported and other critical clinical indicators/outcomes measures.
5. Monitors patient engagement tools: ensures programs and training are in place to provide the best patient experience. Responds promptly and professionally to any patient or guest complaints or concerns. Upholds the UAB Medicine core values in all interactions with patients, guests and colleagues to sustain a collaborative, respectful and service-oriented department.
6. Participates in the annual budget process. Completes cost center budgets and projects revenue and expense targets for the fiscal year in partnership with finance liaison and rehab services administrator. Identifies capital equipment needs and supports ROI business case as needed for capital equipment purchases. Manages the department budget for FTEs and other operating expenses; completes monthly variance reports and submits to Finance. Ensures compliant and complete billing procedures for clinical care are established and maintained.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy or Music Therapy and three (3) years relevant experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Occupational Therapist by the appropriate State of Alabama Board or registered as a Registered Physical Therapist by the State of Alabama Board of Physical Therapy or certified as a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) required. Currently certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
