Manager, Acute Therapy (Multispecialty & Research Hospital)

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Acute Care Services, the Acute Therapy Manager is responsible for the management, oversight, and coordination of the MSRH inpatient rehab services department to identify, analyze, and guide improvements in patient care and service delivery related to Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology services. The Acute Therapy Manager assists with developing and implementing performance initiatives to accomplish strategic and operational objectives. Alongside the daily operational responsibilities, this role represents the rehabilitation team in department-wide planning efforts encompassing space, equipment, staffing, supplies, revenue, expenses, and future programs and services.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates daily patient and staff scheduling for assigned areas, reassigning staff as needed to ensure appropriate coverage for projected workload.
  • Responsible for generating staff work schedules, monitoring staff time and attendance, performing routine staff rounding, conducting staff meetings, and providing regular input to staff regarding performance, including formal performance evaluations, chart reviews, observations, and charge encounter reconciliation.
  • Responsible for addressing and resolving broad management/administrative issues such as planning for future programs and services, procedure coding and revenue capture, cost monitoring and control, patient access and scheduling, patient and staff safety, patient flows, process improvement, regulatory compliance, and the overall timeliness and quality of acute therapy services provided to patients at MSRH.
  • Responsible for conducting candidate interviews and the development of staff orientation.
  • Responsible for staff retention, encouraging problem-solving, team participation in clinical activities, and establishing open communication to support a relationship-based culture.
  • Administers formal disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Acute Care Services to prepare and manage all revenue, operating and capital expense budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in the developments of financial, strategic and departmental goals and achieves them.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of operating budget throughout the year.
  • Analyses monthly financial reports for areas of responsibility, noting variances in operating expense or revenue production and determining actions to resolve variances.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Acute Care Services, strategically plans for the development and enhancement of services provided to patients at MSRH.
  • Responsible for acquiring, managing and ensuring optimal usage of consumable supply inventories for areas assigned, and coordinates product selection process through active participation with staff and the Value Analysis Team.
  • Develops, reviews, and updates policies and treatment protocols to ensure safe, efficient, and effective delivery of care to the MSRH patient population.
  • Maintains own clinical skills through practice in area of expertise; provides direct patient care as needed in area of therapy in which licensed/certified.
  • Performs other management and patient care duties as requested by the Director of Acute Care Services. Works closely and effectively with UT Health San Antonio outpatient Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology services, including those in the academic setting.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of MSRH, with a demonstrated ability to establish a departmental culture of relationship-based care.
  • Incorporates evidence-based best practices, innovation, clinical trials and research, and team engagement in shared governance.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology required.
  • Minimum five years of clinical experience
  • Three years of manager/supervisory experience in an interdisciplinary setting is required
  • Current licensure or certification in area of practice, as issued by specific governing boards, agencies or organizations, and state licensure per Texas state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
