Job Description

The Student Success Center’s Care Coach position is an exciting opportunity for a graduate student at Arizona State University. This position combines the role of a Management Intern/Care Coach with a focus on intensive coaching support for a small group of 20 students. You will get an opportunity to work closely with these students throughout the year who might be experiencing various challenges and have highly established needs. 

In support of the university's goals for student retention and graduation, Success Coaches will work with first-year, sophomore, or transfer students, providing academic support, identity development, and advocacy while focusing on all aspects of wellness.  

This position is for someone who can work about 20 hours during daytime business hours at the Tempe campus.  

The Management Intern-Care Coach position is part of the University College Work+ Program, which is designed to prepare student-employees for their future professional careers. As participants in the Work+ Program, all Success Coaches will benefit from supervisors who serve as career guides and mentors, opportunities to build valuable work skills, and robust professional development. Essential Duties

  • Conduct small group and 1:1 coaching sessions on the Tempe campus as well as virtually. 
  • Lead weekly office hours for a small group of 20 students facing critical challenges.
  • Leverage their expertise with ASU’s services and coordinate care for the student, acting as a primary point of contact while facilitating a comprehensive process-oriented plan to help with the crisis, ensuring speedy and responsive care.
  • Serve as a resource and actively communicate with students to foster their connections to the ASU community and support their personal and academic growth. Create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages students to explore their abilities, embrace their identities, and engage in holistic self-care practices.
  • Maintain records, create reports, and provide updates to supervisors to contribute to the overall success of the Student Success Center and its impact on student well-being. Maintain regular communication with supervisors and collaborators to provide feedback, share insights, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the program.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage coaching sessions and related administrative tasks.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance coaching skills and deepen knowledge of high-touch support and care for college students.
  • Design special events for this group of students regularly to build community.
  • Foster a supportive community and support students in Care Coaching to combat loneliness for enhanced success in college.
  • Track key metrics like academic progress and student satisfaction
  • Maintain detailed records of student response and outreach to inform programmatic decisions
  • Bring expertise and knowledge about mental health supports, counseling, and suicide prevention strategies to the program
  • Adaptability and openness to learn
  • Commitment to the mission of the Student Success Center and promoting student well-being and success. Collaborate with other Success Coaches and campus stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to student support and success. 
  • Willingness to participate in mandatory training and professional development opportunities to enhance coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Pursuing a graduate degree at ASU, demonstrating a strong passion and commitment to supporting college students.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • ​​​​​​Experience in high-touch student support or coaching/mentoring
  • Preferably in a Master’s program in counseling, mental health support, social work, or other mental health support-related program
  • Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours a week during daytime business hours for the full 2024-2025 academic year. 

Working Environment

  • Ability to occasionally bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds to set up and arrange art supplies, equipment, and props for art and wellness classes.
  • Regular use of standard art and office equipment, including but not limited to art materials (e.g., paints, brushes, canvases), easels, sketchbooks, laptops or tablets for digital art, projectors for presentations, and relevant software applications.
