Job Description

The W. P. Carey School of Business is looking for a Human Resources (HR) Management Intern to provide administrative support on a number of different functions, including talent acquisition/recruiting, time reporting, resource management, etc. The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience, while helping us achieve our departmental goals. 

Human Resources is an ideal career for anyone who enjoys managing and interacting with people. In this position, you will learn the ins-and-outs of the HR department and the W. P. Carey School of Business. You will be exposed to sensitive and confidential information, so discretion and good judgement is required. HR employees interact with people on a daily basis and enjoy the challenge of tactfully and effectively communicating with others. The right candidate should be detail-orientated and eager to learn about our internal systems and processes. Our ideal applicant is currently completing a degree in Human Resources or Business Administration. Applicants must be able to commute to the office and work on-site in Tempe, Arizona.

Salary Range

Essential Duties

  • Manages the student worker hiring process, including creating job posting content, communicating with managers on hiring policies and procedures, posting and managing postings in Kenexa, screening applicants, onboarding new hires, etc.  
  • Processes student worker actions, including creating memos for terminations, promotions, transfers etc., submits personnel transaction requests, consults on process and approvals needed for actions.
  • Monitors HR inbox and answers emails. Routes emails to appropriate parties, as needed.
  • Updates a variety of HR databases and tracking sheets.
  • Organizes, maintains, and routinely audits HR personnel files.
  • Assists with updating iSearch Directory and departmental organization charts.
  • Requests new jobs to be added to the WPC Job Openings website and sends out school-wide notifications for open staff positions.
  • Runs reports via MyReports and routes them to various colleagues.
  • Assists with reviewing documents for accuracy and reports discrepancies on projects as assigned.
  • Assists with preparing staff gifts and assisting with department events, as needed.
  • Provides clarification, guidance, and answers HR-related questions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience and knowledge in Human Resources procedures and policies, including recruiting and personnel actions.
  • Experience in recruiting processes and actions.
  • Evidence of being an undergraduate student pursuing a four-year degree. 
  • Proficiency in, or willingness to learn, computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe, is necessary. 
  • Proficiency navigating My ASU.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft.
  • Evidence of effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in using attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Experience in using sound judgement, cultural sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Experience in being a self-starter
  • Ability to efficiently organize work activities to meet deadlines.

Working Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment subject to prolonged periods of sitting and operation of computer equipment requiring keyboarding. Required to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. Regularly operates a desktop/laptop computer, keyboard, telephone, fax, printer and copier. Receives regular review of work progress to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments.
