Position Information

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education (ADUE) for the School of Education (SOE), the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Education (incumbent) will be responsible for overseeing the academic advising unit/staff for the SOE undergraduate education programs office. The incumbent oversees student affairs administrative and instructional support functions including academic advising, outreach, and registration. The incumbent collaborates with the ADUE and the SOE administrative leadership team to monitor equity gaps in progress and outcomes for undergraduate students, with particular attention to historically underserved students and a special focus on Black male student outcomes. The incumbent leads the marketing and outreach of potential and current undergraduate students; orienting and enrolling students; and developing advising and mentoring programs, services, and processes to support students' ongoing academic and career development. The incumbent works in tangent with the SOE Enrollment Manager-Academic Scheduling Specialist in the process of projecting enrollment demand and scheduling courses to support timely degree progress for undergraduates. The incumbent oversees the provision of all scheduling, enrollment management, advising, mentoring, and enrichment services supporting the SOE and students enrolled in the department's undergraduate programs; development, distribution, and dissemination of information regarding university, college, and department policies, procedures and requirements; certification of degree completion with respect to university, college and major requirements; policy translation, consultation, administrative and analytical support for the Dean, Associate Deans, Conveners, and the SOE's administrative leadership team. The incumbent exercises leadership and discretionary authority to solve managerial and programmatic concerns and utilizes a high degree of independence, ingenuity, and analytical skills to resolve complex problems without precedent and/or structure. The incumbent will act as the liaison between the SOE and external offices on a variety of matters related to the undergraduate education program. The incumbent establishes and implements new (and refines existing) academic programs, policies, and procedures. The incumbent develops and implements best practices for the student affairs unit that are in compliance with UC policies and federal, state, and local regulations. The incumbent actively participates in the short- and long-term strategic planning for the unit curriculum and programs. The incumbent maintains the program office budget and oversees the planning, management, and coordination in alignment with the mission, goals, and objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of racial literacy given that UCR is an HSI, MSI, AANAPISI located on Indigenous lands in what we now call the Inland Empire.

The full salary range for the Asst. Director of Undergraduate Prog. is $78,700 - $145,100 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $120,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Ability to analyze work situations and implement long range plans to develop systems and procedures to fulfill complex organizational needs.
Demonstrated ability to extract pertinent information from computerized databases and other sources, conduct analyses, and prepare proposals and reports.
Racial and cultural competency in working with historically marginalized communities, given that UCR is an HSI, MSI, and AANAPISI located on Indigenous lands in what we now call the Inland Empire.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

Demonstrated capability in improving the recruitment, programming, and retention of historically underrepresented and excluded students, and particularly black students given identified barriers and disparities at UCR.
