Within the Engagement and Learning Services Directorate, the Makerspace Specialist supports student success, and teaching and contributes to a library environment that encourages learning, research, collaboration, inquiry, study, and creativity.

Salary Range
$42,000 - $50,000 per year; DOE
Essential Duties
Lead the Makerspace technology lending program, which includes:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that align with ASU Library standards
- Manage and maintain inventory of equipment, including repairs and replacements
- Create, manage, and edit item records
- Evaluate new and emerging technologies for potential inclusion in the makerspace technology lending program.
- Work closely with the Billing department for lost and damaged items
- Work with the Web development team to develop a technology lending website.
- Assist with the daily operations of Makerspace, including appointments, workshops, tours, and inquiries.
- Assist with student supervision, including scheduling and code of conduct
- Provide technical support to library patrons in the use of makerspace technology equipment, including assisting with training and instruction.
- Provide proper safety and operational training to faculty, students, staff, and the community for the safe operation of equipment and use of the MakerSpace. Maintains records of the current safety protocols for all Makerspace equipment for quick reference at any time.
- Promote the growth of MakerService through outreach and collaborations with other departments within the Library community.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Library public service experience
- Experience operating 3-D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines, and related Makerspace tools and technologies.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, conflict, and deadlines.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Exposure to dust and other airborne materials.
- Utilize computer, phone, and various technologies (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Zoom, etc.), office equipment (copier, printer, scanner, etc.).
- May oversee various projects within the library involving handling, sorting, shelving or relocation of physical materials.
- Responsible for oversight of building security, maintenance issues, and compliance with university policy in absence of direct supervisor.
- May work alternate hours, including nights and/or weekends, as needed.
