The University of Pittsburgh's Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) cultivates relationships and contributors, alumni, and other constituents on behalf of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, generating support for teaching, research, and care. The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement is seeking a Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to join a progressive team in central major gifts. This position is expected to fundraise from prospective donors evaluated with the capacity to donate $100,000 or more as well as build a diverse and sustainable portfolio. In order to effectively manage critical relationships with current and prospective donors to meet both short and long-term fundraising objectives for the University, the MGO will consistently initiate contacts with potential major donors, develop and execute strategies to cultivate and maintain relationships, and solicit and close major gifts. Must be willing to travel at least 30% of the time. 



Job Summary

Develops and builds partnerships that strengthen existing donor relationships and identifies, cultivates, stewards, and solicits contributions. Develops and facilitates stewardship evaluations and determines corresponding University and prospective interests. Assists in the development of policies and prepares reports for presentation to management.


Essential Functions 

Develop long-term relationships built on an understanding of donors’ interests, passions, and values. Confirm the giving capacity of the potential donor, to assess their interest in providing philanthropic support to the University. 


Physical Effort 

Light. Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m
Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
Hiring Range $55,000 -$75,000
