Job Summary

The maintenance worker II will perform work in student housing facilities completing maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of craft areas at a skilled level.  Responsible for a wide variety of installation, maintenance, and trade specific work in support of a growing 1,800 bed University housing program, while collaborating with the overall Housing & Residence Life team.   

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Assists in general maintenance of residential areas by performing skilled general building maintenance and repairs.  Work includes but is not limited to repairing and painting of interior and exterior walls, repairing subfloors and installing finished floor surfaces, moving furniture, cleaning, pest control and monitoring outdoor property including pool maintenance and safety. 
  • Assess and complete appliance replacements and repairs.
  • Execute maintenance on HVAC systems, exhaust fans, pumps, motors, and other similar types of equipment.
  • Perform all aspects of plumbing repairs and installs to include clearing clogged drains and assisting with lift station repairs.
  • Perform all aspects of residential electrical repairs and installations.
  • Operate and maintain University vehicles to include trucks, vans, and utility carts.
  • Assist contractors and other University personnel during inspections, construction, projects, and other required work.
  • Complete a variety of handyman tasks including, but not limited to repairing/replacing lights, repairing/replacing locks, assisting with trash, replacing A/C filters, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years in either construction, general maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliance repair or related trade.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Combination of training/experience/coursework will be considered.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Four (4) years of experience in construction, general maintenance, HVAC, electrical or related trade.
  • One (1) years of experience with boilers, chillers, AHU’s, or related utilities trade.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • License in relevant trade.

  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to follow instructions.  
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.   
  • Must be able to work with young adults employing quality customer service skills. 
  • Ability to operate computers using basic software systems. 
  • Knowledge of general maintenance practices and safe working conditions.

 

Other Information

  • This position may work in or around all weather conditions, including hot or cold temperatures, chemical fumes, biohazards, chemicals, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, and standard office conditions.
  • This position may be required to respond to emergencies (ex. ice storm).
  • Will at times be required to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • This position will serve in an on-call rotation and be required to respond to the campus in 1 hour or less when needed.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
