Job Summary

The Maintenance Worker I will provide semi-skilled work in the performance of a variety of maintenance / repair tasks in one or more craft areas at an apprentice level.  Responsible for a wide variety of installation, maintenance, and general labor work in several building and mechanical trade areas.

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Perform semi-skilled general maintenance work (includes light carpentry, drywall repair, painting, carpet installation, light bulb replacement, light electrical, and similar tasks).
  • Assist other facilities staff with skilled maintenance, construction, and project tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on facilities' vehicles, small equipment, and buildings.
  • Perform grounds work (includes fountain maintenance/repair, operate backhoe, site cleanup, and similar tasks).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in construction, general maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or related trade.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Combination of training/experience/coursework will be considered in leu of requirements.
  • Related military experience will be considered in leu of requirements.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in construction, general maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or related trade.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • License in relevant trade.

 

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance practices.

 

Other Information

  • May be exposed to outdoor elements such as heat, rain or cold.
  • Will work around power tools.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
