Maintenance Technician

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor – HRL performs specialized trades and custodial duties in the performance of repairs and maintenance of buildings in Housing & Residential Life facilities. Provide training and supervision to temporary & student staff. Regularly inspect facilities and promptly address repair and custodial issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on various building components, electrical, fan coil units, water heaters and plumbing. Schedule and monitor maintenance contractors. Document action taken on work orders on computer in School Dude.
  • Perform routine/complex maintenance repairs (various building components, electrical, air-condition and plumbing). Document action taken on work orders on computer in School Dude. 
  •  Remove trash from cans, trash rooms and common areas. Pick up trash on grounds in commons areas around trash cans. Refill soap, tissue and towel dispensers as needed in common areas. Vacuum carpets, dust and wet mop tile and hard surfaces. Dust and clean furniture (in common areas). Perform custodial inspections of all residential areas, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, and address any observed issues. Provide training and supervision to temporary and student staff. Document action taken on work orders on computer in School Dude.
  • Perform job functions during severe weather and after-hour emergencies as assigned by Facilities Management / HRL maintenance supervisor. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Facilities Management / HRL Maintenance Supervisor. 

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
High school diploma and 3 years directly related trade experience. Pre-employment drug screen is required. Good driving record, valid driver’s license, and successful background check are required.
Preferred Qualifications
3 years of experience in Housing Facilities Management and EPA Certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of HVAC tools, equipment & materials used in maintenance applicable to the job, especially HVAC. Working knowledge of techniques, methods & practices of designated trades. Skill in use of tools & equipment. Ability to read, understand and interpret plans & specifications.  Familiar with most current HVAC practices. Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Work in an environment with students, faculty and administration while maintaining appropriate behavior. Employee will receive annual OSHA and Facilities Maintenance training.
