Summary of Job Duties:

Performs repair and maintenance of farm and lab machinery and buildings; Perform scheduled lubrication and inspection of farm equipment including tractors, field equipment, harvest equipment, mowers, irrigation lines, various motors, and vehicles. Maintain an inventory of shop tools and supplies. repair and build fences, repair and paint machinery and buildings. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to safety policies and procedures. Use of proper and appropriate safety gear and attending regularly scheduled safety training is required. Interact with faculty, staff, and students at the Shult Station and University. Interact with vendors and service personnel.
Performs farm labor involving land preparation and crop maintenance. This includes operating tractors with disks, chisels, bedders, harrows, field and row cultivators, land planes, rollers, rotary hoes, planters, pesticide sprayers, incorporators, mowers, loaders, back hoes, and blades etc. Perform grounds keeping duties including mowing, trimming, and landscaping, road maintenance mow rights-of-way. Also, mix and spray crop pesticides, apply fertilizer and irrigate. Maintain field activity and equipment records.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain good working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience or training in the building construction trades, general building maintenance, or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.


Preferred qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. Three or more years of experience in a relevant trade.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license, be able to lift 50 lbs. and be able to walk long distances in field conditions. The applicant must be able to work outside in sunny and hot conditions in summer as well as cold conditions in fall, winter, or spring. The successful applicant will be able to perform routine repair and maintenance of farm and research equipment. The successful applicant will have or obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicators license issued from a relevant state agency.
