Maintenance Crewperson

Primary Function: The Maintenance Crewperson is responsible for performing general building maintenance. The maintenance crewperson will also conduct PMCS on pumps, generators, HVAC, and other University equipment.

Essential Functions:

Primary Role:

  • Repairs and/or replaces locks on doors, desks, and file cabinets.
  • Performs light maintenance duties in buildings (install stair treads, etc.).
  • Performs minor electrical repairs (replace light switches, lamps, outlets, toilet motion sensors).
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs (repair leaks, remove clogs).
  • Assists with office moves.
  • Builds, assembles, and installs furniture and equipment, as required.
  • Deliver boxes and other supplies throughout campus.
  • Cares for university vehicles.
  • Assists with snow removal in the winter.
  • Performs routine maintenance on golf carts.
  • Performs elevator safety checks to ensure elevators are operating properly in case of an emergency.
  • Conducts monthly tests on generators to ensure proper functioning.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on Air Handling machines (cleans coils, replaces belts, replaces HVAC filters).

Secondary Duties:

  • Assists Grounds Crew when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Builds, repairs, and patches walls
  • Conducts PMCS and clean all pumps 
  • Prepares outside pond pumps for winter storage and installs pond pumps in the spring.
  • Loads and unloads trucks using forklifts.
  • Assists vendor with fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and fire extinguisher testing.
  • Sets up tables, chairs, etc. for University functions.

Additional Duties:

  • Installs and repairs carpet in offices and hallways.
  • Transports furniture or other supplies to off-site locations, as needed.

Marginal Duties:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in or a combination of minor construction, general building maintenance, carpentry, electrical, and/or plumbing required
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal/communication skills
  • Must possess strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure quality work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, occasionally lift up to 100lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires constant standing, bending, reaching and walking in performance of the job (67% or more of the time).
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally be able to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Will be on-call for evenings and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • Occasional travel to off-campus University buildings
