Who We Are

The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. What We Want

The Machinist II will be responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing metal parts, tools, and equipment. The selected candidate will also perform regular duties associated with machines parts on mills, lathes, and other shop equipment, which is used in operation of K500 and K150 Cyclotron. What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Schedules: Occasional work will be performed outside the machine shop.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Five years as journeyman machinist

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a federally certified machinist apprentice program

  • One year as leader or supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Milling Machine: Operate machine parts on a milling machine.

  • Lathes: Operate machine parts using lathe.

  • Other Machine Shop Equipment: Operate machine parts using drill press, grinders, shapers and other equipment and perform other duties as assigned.
