Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the LVN or Sr. LVN level.

Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in the assigned department, the LVN performs a wide variety of patient care activities in support of clinic activity. This includes prioritizing and assisting in patient triage processing, preparation and assistance with patient examinations, administering medications, drawing blood, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, patient education, venipuncture, and IV access.

Position requires initiative, ability to prioritize critical demands, and the ability to work in a team environment. Assigned to the most difficult cases requiring independent judgment. Assists in training Vocational Nurses and per diem Vocational Nurses. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Recent experience as a vocational nurse in a similar role and setting.

  • Requires knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Proven LVN experience in direct patient care; skills in accurately taking and recording vital signs, height and weight; administering medication including injections; interviewing patients; and collecting and/or testing specimens.

  • Thorough knowledge of the normal range of values for vital signs, emergency procedures, and of basic lab and infection control procedures; standard items used to stock exam rooms.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the patient flow process in order to efficiently monitor appointments, patients and available physicians.

  • Recent experience in a similar role and setting Knowledge in medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

  • General knowledge of pharmaceuticals and able to process PARs.

  • Proven ability to serve as a resource and effectively lead and mentor teams. Ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.

  • Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

  • Dermatology experience.

  • ACLS and/or ART.

  • Knowledge of PCIS, IDX, and EPIC computer systems.

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • The pay scale for the LVN is $30.00-$37.29. The pay scale for the Sr. LVN is $33.20-$41.28.

  • A minimum of two years of work experience as an LVN is required to be hired at the Senior level


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $62,640 - $77,862 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.00 - $37.29

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
