Position overview
Position title: LTER Inclusion and Access Coordinator at NCEAS
Salary range: This full-time Academic Coordinator 1 position offers a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience (https://ap.ucsb.edu/compensation.and.benefits/ucsb.salary.scales/36.pdf ). Expected salary range is $65,000-$80,000.
Anticipated start: Autumn 2023
Position duration: The initial appointment is for 12 months, with extension pending available funds and strong performance.

Position description
POSITION OVERVIEW

The LTER Network Office seeks a collaborative and purpose-driven individual to assist LTER sites in developing and implementing strategies for broadening participation and increasing inclusion and access.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program was established by the National Science Foundation in 1980 to study ecological processes operating on decadal-to-century time scales. Today, 27 sites located in diverse biomes generate a steady flow of high impact, team-driven science. Each year hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students work side-by-side with professional researchers and faculty members at LTER sites. At the same time, professional communities-of-practice and scientific synthesis efforts build interactions across sites.

These rich mentoring and networking opportunities serve as levers for promoting broader participation and inclusion in the Network and in environmental sciences in general.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This newly-created position requires a creative problem-solver with strong relationship-building skills and experience in programs to broaden participation in science. Under the supervision of the Director of the LTER Network Office and in partnership with the LTER Network Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee and the National Science Foundation, the LTER Inclusion and Access Coordinator will design and promote a network-wide strategy for expanding inclusion and access. They will curate resources, organize trainings, develop document templates, and help LTER sites to build internal capacity as they work to lower and eliminate barriers to inclusion and access in LTER research.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• At least 1 year of experience implementing programs to broaden participation in scientific research

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

• A baccalaureate degree, or equivalent experience, in environmental science, Earth science, ecology, sociology, psychology, or a related field by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

• Able to present information clearly, concisely, and compellingly (in writing, in person, and online)
• Able to build trusting relationships with individuals at various career stages
• Familiar with online collaboration technologies (shared drives and documents, videoconferencing, etc.)
• Familiar with field or ship-board research conditions
• Familiar with academic processes
