Department/Organization: 208123 - Institute for Rural Health Research


Normal Work Schedule: Varies; must be available to work evenings and weekends.


Job Summary: The LPN facilitates quality patient care within the scope of licensure.


Additional Department Summary: Renders initial evaluations of patients and facilitating critical care procedures for sick and injured persons per scope of licensure. Obtains baseline vital signs, assists with stabilization and safe transport of patients needing emergency care. Participates in patient treatment and administers medications as directed by physician or designated medical professional. Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Serves as a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Provides non-emergency courtesy services as needed, such as minor first-aid, hydration, etc. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Alabama in good standing.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and health care professionals. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPPA regulations at all times.

Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
